Instead of discarding the incumbency edge given to us by a highly successful, accomplished President that has seen us through a pandemic, shutdowns and a standstill economy, why not bolster your support for him? President Biden has withstood all the slings and arrows beyond what normally come with the job, even stoically accepting the charges against his last remaining son that most legal experts say are rarely brought.
We have a little over three months before the Presidential election and support for this President is increasing. The Polls are not a reliable benchmark. Have you forgotten 2016?
The bitterness and division this decision will cost will make it impossible for you to push YOUR new selection over the top. After all, that is what it boils down to. We the people chose President Biden overwhelmingly as our candidate. You claim to want to protect democracy. Prove it by respecting our votes.
No amount of salutations and ceremonies that you believe will console the voters for the orchestrated and coerced removal of President Biden will do. The mental optics of this action will only appear as dangling ribbons and medals on the knives in his back placed there by your cowardice.

(162 posts)Normally, I don't weigh in on these shenanigans. However, this BS is so blatant that I had to be the first to call it out. This has nothing to do with Biden's current health. It's all about Kamala. She would win if Joe stepped down, but that's not what's really happening in the rarified air of Democratic elites and donors. They don't care if they win or lose this time. They don't want Kamala anywhere near the seat of power because they know they won't have a chance in Hades to move her out in 2028. They don't want their guy, or in the case of overly ambitious Senators and Congressmen, themselves, to have to wait until 2028. That's it. Yes, it has to do with her ethnicity. Don't try to offer placid, "Oh, you're being paranoid..." BS excuses. Yes, it also has to do with her gender. Hillary had many faults, but being a woman was a major one even in the minds of many Democratic power players. I'm very pissed off (how's that for overarching nuance) with Nancy, Schiff, and the rest of the tony group. I should remember that Black Americans never succeed by wholeheartedly believing the "good intentions" of the majority group (and the very few Black people that call themselves powerbrokers are deluding themselves - yes, I am referring to Jeffries and the others falling in with Nancy and her group).
End of rant. My sorority and boyfriend's fraternity (both stretch worldwide) agree with my take on this (they are just not voicing it - yet). There is a distinct sense of boiling anger surrounding this farce covered up by "we are concerned for Biden's welfare." Do you think Dems are going to win if you piss off 30-40% of the base that put Biden in? Think again. But, as I said, these powerbrokers in the Democratic party don't really give a rip about winning 2024.
