As this thread states : Shame on the media for not covering the ranting of this dangerous lunatic. Also, shame on the political party propping him up, and shame on all those Putin lapdogs in Congress who are literally trying to dismantle democracy

David Pakman talked about this a while ago. Someone had asked him why the USA doesn't just use its own oil instead of doing all the export/import stuff.

His explanation was facinating.

Most USA produced oil is graded as 'light' or 'sweet' because of the lower sulphur content. On the other hand, oil from Russia and the Middle East is heavier and requires more refining.

Since imported oil met most of the USA's needs for many years, a good number of our refineries were designed to refine the heavier overseas crude. Pakman also said it works out financially, because oil extraction is cheaper overseas.
