But its not what people have been talking about. And I can be totally wrong about this.
First thing I dont think hes in cognitive decline. You saw him at the state of the union. Youve seen him after the debate. Id say hes good on that part. I cant explain the debate.
What I saw was a reflection of myself. Really bad days with back problems. I saw my walk and stiff shoulders. Sometimes Im really not myself. A lot has been made out of his walking, getting up stairs, etc.. Watch me use the handrail I installed for my wife on a single step. Just because I walk slow now and hold on to something doesnt mean Im off mentally. I grab the first shopping cart I see to lean against. Up until a few years back I still had my fast walk going. To me the people who related his walk and stiffness to a mental decline are just wrong. I didnt make fun of tfg having to be helped down the ramp. People get old. Tfg on the other hand has been and is still a threat to the entire country.
Anyways this is just something I feel. But dont know.
Edit: when I saw President Biden walking, going up and down stairs I thought of the same things I do. But thanks to posts here I found out he has neuropathy in his feet.
Ive have some but not bad enough to affect my gait. Just enough to cause some problems sleeping sometimes.

(11,179 posts)maybe some bone degeneration, maybe some balance issues. That's all if they are lucky. They are also likely to get tired more easily. There's nothing unusual about him for an 81-year-old.
He moves more slowly. His voice isn't as strong. His energy isn't as strong. He does forget figures and ocassionally mispeaks names. Agreed, These things don't mean he has dementia. That's normal, in my experience, for his age. As you say, some days are going to be better than others. Pain and tiredness isn't always a straight line, especially with medications. Unfortunately, that doesn't help him make the case in a dynamic, concise, charismatic way that is needed to excite the base and get the vote out.

(56,151 posts)It's not fair, but with his every move on video (thank God that wasn't the case with FDR!), he has been made to look very fragile with his halting steps.
And he seems to always have a cough, even when he doesn't have covid.
His mind is still sharp as a tack, but his body is failing him. Life is unfair.
I'll never forget him saying during the 2020 campaign, when asked about his age, that it should be Beau running instead of him. 🥺

(3,479 posts)From his released physical.
Explains the walk. Also, the issues with stairs.
Debate was clearly combination of fatigue, illness, and an OMG will the professional news people ever call out his blatant bullshit lies.

(3,767 posts)I suffer from the same thing. Just not bad. It mainly bothers me at night trying to sleep.
