Ageism is not suddenly ok here

Against anyone, but particularly against Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders.

Juries please take note, “age” is specifically noted in the TOS under “bigotry/insensitivity”.

Are we going to follow our own rules or what?

While on the subject, I’ve raged about generalizations based on region, state, urban vs rural, etc., for a long time now. It’s chauvinistic IMO and causes me to question one’s motives for generating such off-putting commentary. It seems to be generally accepted, however, so I address it on a case-by-case basis.

I live in a small city at the edge of a major metro area. I am definitely in the country if I go a few miles in some directions. Despite the proliferation of rump paraphernalia in yards four years ago (even eight years ago), it’s much more scattered nowadays. I realize that every household who didn’t put crap on their property won’t suddenly switch party affiliation, but I think it indicates a general malaise toward his execrable campaign.

But I digress.

I have met good Democrats and progressives in these areas who don’t wear their politics on their sleeve, but still appreciate recognition for their often unheralded accomplishments. It doesn’t help to lump the rural population into an uneducated , racist, cousin-fucking cohort. Again, I question the motives of those who persist. Doesn’t sound very progressive IMO.

I was peeved at Doggett for wanting an open convention and I do not want one. However, "Texas fascist" is a bit hyperbolic!

Someone piled on Joe Manchin because Manchin's grandfather changed his name from Mancina to Manchin. . Stated that Manchin changed the name himself to appeal to WV racists. i am a boomer, age 76. i remember when i was in my teens and early twenties that many in my generation were anti government, supporters of racial justice and advocates of a more open society. they also opposed greed, pollution, and war, especially war. war would have required sacrifice and sacrifice was a dirtier word than fuck. we were given much by our parents. we have left our children a society dominated by greed, hate, and religious fanatism. trump is the epitome of the boomer attitude of “if it feels good, do it” regardless of the consequences to others. boomers may try to defend themselves as is their right, but their “me first” bullshit is indefensible.

21. Youth mature, but you can't do anything about old age. However, I have seen a few stereotypical "kids these days" posts
Tue Jul 23, 2024, 08:51 AM
Jul 2024

Such as "They don't take their eyes off their phones"

I think it is difficult to motivate youth to vote. But it has always been that way. It's nothing new. It has nothing to do with cell phones etc.
I was young once and I didn't vote. I didn't have a cell phone or a computer etc. I was just too busy.
Youth don't vote for the same reason that many minorities don't vote.
They just have more pressing needs in their life.

After I got done being young, I was raising kids. (Fortunately, today's technology does allow young parents to keep more up to date than I was) I didn't have time to keep with up with politics when I had kids running around my house. We didn't have cable either. My kids' safety, their well being, their schooling, their social lives were always my priority.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs indicates why.
Youth, young parents and minorities needs often at the base of the pyramid. Civic engagement is at the top.
Many retired people are at the top.

We were all young at one time and we weren't much different than "kids these days" back then.

As for the cell phone issue, what about all the adults who also are glued to their phone screens? There's the video of the woman who tumbled into a fountain cuz she wasn't watching where she was going. She was late 30s, I'd guess.

Some young people mature faster yet we have minimum age requirements. Personally I'm in favor of upper age limits, too & that's not a popular opinion around here.

IMO, younger candidates generate more energy, probably cuz they engage younger people, but especially after someone older has been in office. Look at JFK, Bill Clinton, Obama, & now Harris & the new energy they all generated after older men had been in office. This was a good move. I feel badly how it went down cuz Joe deserved to be treated more respectfully publicly, but he's a trooper & he knows that what counts is who wins in November.

Joe Biden will go down as one of the most influential politicians of our time & one of the most effective & productive presidents ever.
