(110,629 posts)a good one. It is not a good look, no matter his justification. (and I get the sensitivities given his perceived "thumb on the scale" for HRC in 2016 over Biden, but still... ) This is not meant to be a call-out of Obama--who I still hold in great esteem, just my sense that it was a wrong call. Endorsing her now-- well after she has garnered all the other $$ and endorsements-- just seems really inadequate (and it does not appear that he has done so even now). I am admittedly disappointed in him.

(18,460 posts)He would be the ideal person to ensure the convention ran smoothly. If he endorsed her he wouldnt be able to do that. There was no way o know how quickly the Dems and everyone else would endorse her and the last thing we needed was a chaotic convention.

the obama endorsement will be timely and eloquent.

(110,629 posts)Obama's withholding his own endorsement-especially now that it is clear that she has both Biden's endorsement AND sufficient pledged delegates to more than win the nomination--might signal something problematic in their minds. We may "know" that is not the case, but donors are a different breed. This shit (and the signals it sends) matters. CNBC's Aaron Sorkin underscored the "wait and see" attitude from major donors this morning and while he did not single out Obama's lack of endorsement, he did say that some are simply not yet convinced Harris can do it. Big donors backed off several weeks ago. For all Harris' amazing small donor success, we need to get the former back on track.
I will always support Obama but I think this calculation is seriously wrong. It shows a lack of support for Harris but more, for Biden, his sacrifice, and his own endorsement of his successor.

(9,238 posts)Nothing to do with not supporting Harris or Biden.
What's the rush?? My gosh the Harris for POTUS movement is already going bonkers!

(5,835 posts)my congrats to our leaders for seizing the timing.
big donors? we can never match thiel or musk anyway, lets beat them like we always do. on the ground.

(110,629 posts)the timing. Given the delay thus far--even though she's already nailed the delegates necessary and EARLY VOTING BEGINS IN SEPTEMBER in some states, you should not be asking "what's the hurry!"
Please read my post. I addressed everything you are questioning including the impact of lost big donors the past several weeks and the need to get that back on track. I believe that Harris will have no problem ultimately accessing the Biden-Harris funds, but even a filed RW lawsuit destined to fail can mean major delays in its access. And though it sounds like they are all on top of this--registering her own legal accounts on Sunday, that does not mean she's gotten access to those banked $$ yet. So, let's not be stupid about this. She's doing great, but we do not have the time to put up unnecessary obstacles--and sufficient $$$ when Elon is giving MAGA $46 million EACH MONTH until the election should not be met with our sitting on our "laurels." Obama damned well should know that. I see no "honor" in failing to support our clear nominee under these circumstances and I will not let my immense admiration for him otherwise blind me to that.
