Much to the annoyance of Team Trump, his near-assassination cannot be blamed on a leftist zealot, but on a "traditional" Republican who saw Trump as an anti-Christ level threat. And I doubt that he's the only one who feels that way.
Obama didn't win simply because he got the black vote. He won because he worked at CONVINCING enough black voters that he could ALSO bring in enough WHITE voters. We have to spend the next three months getting non-MAGA Republicans to come out of the closet and convince them that the way to "assassinate" MAGA is with votes against -- not bullets in favor of -- DuhDonald.
Here's an article and a DU thread about a poll which suggests that 3 out of 10 "Trump voters" approve of his lawbreaking...which means that 7 out of 10 do not.

(28,835 posts)Some will cross over, but we generally tend to overestimate the potential there. Haley voters, for example, aren't going to run to Harris en masse as some insist. Some will, certainly.
I think we should focus more on registration and turnout efforts for Democrats, left-leaning independents, and others in the big tent. If anti-Trump Republicans and right-leaning independents hear our message and want to go along for the ride, that works, but I don't think we should spend a lot of time on targeting them specifically.

(51,381 posts)"saw Trump as an anti-Christ level threat". Did they get that far on Crooks' motives, and classifying his niche political affiliation? Somebody was flying the Trump flag at his house. Dad had guns. Jr. was conservative. That's as far as I got.

(44,922 posts)I believe that being unable to reconcile being a pre-Trump era "traditional" Republican and being MAGA was his motive.
