In politics also..........just look at the effect Kamala coming into the Presidential campaign is having on the Republican Politicians.
Kamala is already mentally and verbally laying them to whale shit.
And...... if you think that assault, coming from a woman, let alone a Black Woman, doesn't mess with their minds, stay tuned.........
The Repubs were trying so hard to get the Black's Vote, forget that.........The Repubs were trying so hard to get the women's vote, forget that.........The Repubs were trying so hard to get the young vote, forget that........Etc Etc

This is a clear sign Kamala is not only exciting the base, she's exciting young people, majority of whom though they choose to not identify with one party, are left leaning. Never discount the youth vote. Our young people are paying attention and we need their vote.

summer_in_TX
(3,690 posts)We'll have to make sure they keep checking to verify they are registered, because there will be tens of thousands of challenges to the voting rolls, especially in the swing states. Students who have not checked their mail and not responded to mail from the elections administrator may find they are suspended.
Preparation, making a plan, voting early so any issues can be ironed out. Educating them on the process will help them be successful.

(8,117 posts)It's why Vivek and probably a lot more Republicans want to restrict voting rights for people under 25. Reduce the various demographics (save white men, old) and Republicans come out in good shape. More various people from various walks of life vote, Democrats come out in good shape.
My daughter, who cast her first vote Biden in 2020 seemed to be down on politics. I tried to tell her she did the right thing, Biden WAS a great President, don't think your vote meant nothing, you helped save our nation, but I also understand her concerns. That said, she did seem to perk up yesterday when we talked about Harris. Wife and I will take her out to lunch...on election day.

when republicans consider voting rights for anyone not a white male, their honkydyslexia causes them to see veto rather than vote.

In a way that is so overwhelmingly obvious it cannot ever be disputed. I want the republican party to be so let down that their voters just give up on them.

(3,243 posts)About one- third of all of us, across societies. You are correct, that's why Shrub and now Trump at their lowest rarely dip below 37% or so. Though I think GWB was at something like 20% at the end, in reaction to the financial crisis and the Iraq war. But Trump beats him by a mile on the authoritarian scale.
Interesting article on the appeal of authoritarianism.

The key - as ALWAYS - is motivating these young voters to get to the polls and to exercise their right to choose to protect their future rights and to choose a way of life THEY want, not what grandad Trumpy Bear wants to tell them they can have...

I mean, I'll admit it - I was a huge naysayer this past month. I feel IDENTICALto Lawrence O'Donnell - catch his piece on this from last night (Monday). I feel like Joe was pushed out unfairly. He's not only done a fantastic job, but he's still very much got it. It's only PERCEPTIONS and ageism that took him down. And I mistakenly thought it wasn't well-thought through and would be a cluster. I far underestimated our party!
That said, Kamala was our first choice in 2020. I watch her on the world stage and elsewhere with admiration and pride. And the enthusiasm - especially from young people and POC and young WOMEN - is astounding and gratifying.
It was the right move.

"The poll, conducted by Quinnipiac University between July 19 and 21, found that among the 18-34 age group, Trump fared better than Harris, with 58 percent of those surveyed supporting the former president compared to Harris' 39 percent.
When asked how they would vote if Trump were facing President Biden, the former president had a 17-point lead over Biden in the 18-34 age group, with 54 percent saying they would vote for Trump, while 37 percent said they would vote for the president.
"The dramatic reset at the top of the Democratic ticket does little to move the race as Vice President Harris enters the fray with numbers similar to President Biden,"
said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy. The poll surveyed 1,376 adults 18 years and older and had a 2.6 percent margin of error.:

(1,054 posts)As the father of three milenials I can assure you that they voted in 2020 and will vote again in 2024. Their concern was that Biden was too old and that he didn't fully understand thier concerns. They wanted someone younger. They understand the consequences of not voting this fall. They all have LGBT friends as well as non binary friends. They understand what rights they would lose if Trump is elected. I spoke to my youngest yesterday and I asked him if he was happy that Harris was now the presumptive nominee and he said yes and he was very enthusiastic about her. He liked Biden but the 60 year age gap was something that was very concerning for him and his peers. What this age group wants is to know that our leaders are aware of thier needs and concerns and that they have skin in the game.
