Synopsis: "The rise and fall of fascism in Germany; tracing the roots of Nazism after World War 1, from Munich to Nuremberg to Berlin; exploring the totalitarian society built by Adolf Hitler."
Rick Steve "As we've seen through the story of fascism in Germany a charismatic leader rose to power through the democratic process and then seized extra-constitutional power by unlawful means. When citizens allowed this, individual freedom and rights fell by the wayside and democracy was lost." - "We are all participants. We are all responsible."

(14,797 posts)It's easy to resist the appeals of a would-be strongman when things are going well. When the situation seems near hopeless, a strong leader, promising easy solutions, can be extremely hard to resist. Given the right conditions, a strongman will find his followers. Can we avoid situations where where these conditions arise? I hope so.

Quite scary and quite enlightening. And worth reminding us all of Hitler's rise. It's definitely a 100/101 course on the rise of fascism in Germany & quite understandable.
