Poor Sad Mitt and Ann. Mitt Romney Orders Boston Market For Thanksgiving, Paper Reveals

I know it is wrong to be enjoying Romney's loss so much but....(and in my family the children were the REASON for cooking the feast....)

Ever since conceding to President Obama in the early-morning hours of November 7, Mitt Romney has kept a low public profile. After blaming his election loss on Obama's "gifts" to minorities in a phone call to donors--comments that drew criticism from many in his own party--the former GOP standard bearer has hardly even surfaced in the news, popping up occasionally on a California rollercoaster or incongruously pumping his own gas.

A new Washington Post story sheds light on Romney's post-election mourning period.

It quotes sources close to Romney as saying the now California-based businessman, who has waged what seemed like a perpetual campaign for president over the past six years, is facing boredom as he struggles to adapt to a wide-open schedule.

It also details a surprisingly casual Thanksgiving dinner, courtesy of Boston Market:

Over Thanksgiving, one of Romney’s five sons, Josh, his wife and their four children packed into a single bedroom at the Spanish-style villa on Dunemere Drive here. One friend said they ordered their turkey dinner from Boston Market, the home-style restaurant chain, because there were too many kids running around the house to bother with cooking a feast.

Good grief - seems the kiddos would have had a fantastic time helping the adults prepare a T-day feast. Little kids love having things to do and feeling like they've contributed to a family project. Guess because the white horse kingpin is behaving like Mr. Grumpy Gills, everyone has to enjoy the damp, gray cloud of doom right along with him. Way to go Mitt, Ann!

So so so sooooooooooooooooooo glad these people will never have the opportunity to be the First Family.

We did it a couple of times for T-Giving and Christmas. No fuss, no muss. You can spend all your time with friends and family rather than in the kitchen. And, no, I don't work for Boston Market and no, I don't like Willard and Ann. I won't cast aspersions on their innocent grand kids though.

It seemed to me the point was the Romney's have sunk to some sort of low so they ordered Boston Market because, perhaps, they were so downtrodden at the loss of the election they couldn't bring themselves to cook a feast like so many families do. I was actually trying to be nice and support their decision to order out rather than feeling they had to go through the ritual of cooking the annual t-giving dinner.

Perhaps I'm so jaded by now that what I think is trying to be nice really isn't.

My mom lovingly cooks and entire Thanksgiving even though usually it is just me, my partner and my mom. I feel a little sorry for anyone who doesn't get that kind of treatment. But the article says the family spent the day crammed into one bedroom and eating a take-out turkey dinner. It's just kind of sad...and especially for the kids-we all wish better for them.

I'm not sure why they were cramped into one bedroom. However, when I was a kid there were four of us kids and we regularly got cramped into one hotel room with my parents on family trips. We also used to spend a lot of time during the summer at my grandmother's farm where the house had three bedrooms. The master bedroom for Grandma and Grandpa and the two other bedrooms for the thirteen kids.

I don't think it phases kids because I don't think they've learned it should yet.

I can imagine people being burned out and not wanting to go through the usual fuss, maybe people at DU, maybe it's a good thing this got out about the Romneys, lessen an unnecessary stigma about celebrating the "wrong" way.

4 kids are too much? Whaaaaaa......My grandma had 13 grandkids running around crazy, and we did, with 5 adults.....the only thing anyone could bring was a pie....she did the rest. My mom and aunts took over when we all showed up. There is nothing wrong with ordering in. In fact, I think it's a great idea, but don't blame it on the the kids.

OK, done being rude....for now

But, yeah, two unemployed grandparents with five sons and five daughters-in-law and not one of them was willing to put together a meal because the kids were too much to handle. My mother would have cooked an entire meal and the trimmings, 2 cheesecakes, 2 pumpkin pies , apple pie and her great grandmother's cake recipe...and there would have been enough left over for everyone take a meal or two home with them.

And I know Ann has MS but my mother only has one hand so... sorry, no violin playing there. (hand and a half...to be fair, she has 1.5 hands)

Isn't this a mansion? Do they only have one spare room? I don't even have a spare bedroom, and I was able to put up my sister, her husband and their two kids for a week. And yes, kids can help with a lot of household chores (although for two and three year olds you may have to lower you standards a bit, but, hey, you can overlook a lot with people you like).

It's never their fault. If they had come out and said, we've been very busy lately, we're exhausted from the campaign, we're just going to get some take out - fine, I'd have no problem with that. But Mitt's trying - again - to push the blame on someone else, and in this case it's his kid and grandkids. I am so glad he's not going to be in a position of influence.

We had a new addition (due to a move) of a relative this year. She had family coming to her house for years, and likely a bit of drama. This year she just hung out and helped wherever, at one point I came into the kitchen and she was doing, hell I can't remember what, but some not a critical task, but a job none the less. She looked at me and said, "this is sooooo much fun."

Later I am starting to carve the turkey and it is typical chaos, one asking for the juice to make gravy while stating she is worried the gravy will be any good, others reaching over me to get spices, the occasional hand coming in to steal a slice of turkey.... you get it. It was annoying as hell, what the majority of us experienced, but that wasn't the experience at the Romney compound, so yes, I do feel bad for them.

shopping at costco for his shirts (for one thing, costco is a blue company) even with that picture of the whole blinking family that someone put up--where all the kids were dressed alike) I cannot believe this story. even if the kids don't have sophisticated palates, I am sure one of the better restaurants in the area (and there are plenty) would have put something together for them. and having read the whole piece in the wapo, strikes me as more loser sour grapes, especially the dig at president gore.
