I heard this on MSNBC. They supposedly asked for vetting materials from Walz, Shapiro, Whitmer, Kelly, Cooper
Whitmer denies being asked for anything. https://www.freep.com/story/news/politics/2024/07/23/whitmer-not-interested-harris-vp-ticket/74509842007/
They are also interested in:

(2,881 posts)Pam: "Hey cowboy, you're not just doing this to make your wife jealous are you?"
Bud: "Yep."
Pam: "I have a thing about cowboys, just drives my Daddy crazy. He can't understand it. I told him Daddy, most men today are just too complicated. Daddy goes to an analyst three times a week. I like men with simple values. I like independent, self-reliant, brave, strong, direct and open."
Pam: "You mean dumb? he said. Daddys a real scream."

(55,334 posts)That means Beshear or Shapiro. We need a generational choice to motivate younger voters.
Andy is 46 y Josh is 51.

(55,334 posts)Having a background of balancing a state budget is a useful gimmick to have in the VP's resume, but it's not really an important skill to have.
You can hire budgeting experts for the real work. "Budgeting experts" means experienced negotiators, by the way -- same skillset as a hostage negotiator. And these experts in turn can hire the accountants.
The real skills you need for a VP is a telegenic, exciting campaign speech giver who shows solid judgment in policy selection and can think quickly on his feet.
Doing the job, as Mr 45 showed, has almost nothing to do with getting the job.

(55,334 posts)I know Kentucky isn't gettable. But I think he fills a whole we've been been bleeding out of for decades. Both governor's are expert campaigners. I think Beshear is a little better, a little more fun & relatable. That's subjective of course. But he comes off more as the buddy you go fishing with.
And he looks younger. We need to hyperexcite the under 30 voters to win. Dems win best with big turnouts.
But the other whole he plugs (slightly) better are white men. We won't win that demographic except in Massachusetts, but we need to draw over more white guys to tip the scale in enough purple states to rebuild the blue wall. Kamala needs to show that it's cool for a white guy to be comfortable working under WOC. Bless their hearts, too many independent men need to see that modeled still. Beshear, who won in Kentucky where Biden lost by 25 points and Clinton by 30(!), can subliminally give that assurance. And Andy did that while standing firm on issues like a woman's right to choose and sensible gun laws--he actually lost his political mentor in a mass shooter incident in a bank a few years back.
I'll be happy with Shapiro. I kinda suspect he's gonna deliver Pennsylvania to our ticket anyway. I also see him as a possible future president -- 2032 or (God help us) 2028. He's a highly uniting candidate. I'm just not confident that he'll appeal as strongly to men outside the rust belt -- especially swing states like Nevada, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina.

(28,476 posts)He's brought billions of dollars to our state in new business moving here, and others expanding. Tons of new jobs. We have the largest revenue surplus now in Kentucky's history.
He's personable and relates well to the rural folks here. I'd say his downside would be lack of experience overseas, but he has traveled a lot to various countries to bring home the investment bacon. He was also the state Attorney General before the governorship.
I think he would appeal to Midwest and Southern voters.

(2,145 posts)Not going to carry Louisianna. I think he'd be a good candidate on his own, but not sure he's right for Kamala's VP.
Hell of a pitcher though.
