It's kind of a very coastal thing to say: anything that's not the coasts is the Midwest? It's just odd. That's why people are objecting.

but at least they're non-coastal states for a change. Obama was from Illinois, though.

But I noticed the trend when the new House convened and the three leaders: Pelosi, Hoyer and Clyburn - all costies - were replaced by other coastwise. Jeffries, Clark and Aguilar.
