I'm from Kentucky and I see the governor up close and personal. He checks all the boxes except for being in a swing state, so I get it why she won't choose him.
But boy, Gov. Beshear is a political knife fighter. Don't let Andy's nice guy/choir boy act fool you. He's about as cunning and cutthroat of a politician you'll ever find. He's pretty ruthless with a smile on his face. There's a reason why he torpedoes Republicans in this state. His father taught him well. He's a MASTER politician. He would be perfect for Harris if not for the swing state stuff.
He won in counties in eastern Kentucky that voted 70% for Trump. He has a silver tongue.

(2,248 posts)Remember, Harris was from California, decidedly not a swing state and yet she was chosen.
As was Biden in 2008, despite the fact he was from Delaware.
I actually don't know if I trust the idea that having the veep from a swing state does all that much to move the needle.
In 2016, Hillary won Virginia by six points. That was only two-points better than Obama won the state in 2012 and actually four-points worse than Biden won it four years later. So, did Tim Kaine really help in Virginia?
If Shapiro can guarantee Pennsylvania, I say do it. But I can't really recall when a VP nominee actually locked down their state.
Edwards certainly didn't in 2004. Ryan didn't bring Wisconsin. I guess Gore with Tennessee but I suspect Clinton would have won Tennessee both elections regardless since he did very well in the south.
Maybe LBJ and Texas? Mondale in Minnesota? That was a long time ago, tho.

Were out here cooking recipes, with ingredients we find major but might be quite minor to her as she considers who she wishes to govern with.

(5,961 posts)There is a particular population in the swing states that we need to speak to. A lot of people put down different towns by adding the suffix "tucky" to them. This generally means a bunch of backward ass hicks live there. I think we need someone who can talk to our "tucky" towns. Seems like he is perfect.
