Can we FIND a more racist phrasing?
"Them damned people in the projects," is a phrase I may have heard in my youth, half a century ago.
Some things never change.

(19,877 posts)Well, this apartment dweller is not at all surprised, being the Romney campaign has been the most racist, ignorant, & vile campaign of my lifetime (31yrs).

(118,659 posts)Be it people in trailorparks, people who ride buses, and now people in 'the apartments'. We don't do that here in Canada so much. My dad lived in a well to do neighbourhood and took the bus to work every single day. My aunt had a trailer they used to vacation with. There is some sorta snobery amongst the GOP that is shocking. You would never hear that here. And it is so strange because you are the ones that fought for that first democracy while we just inherited ours from the british.

(8,646 posts)Where I live it's 'the Northside' that is looked down on, but not in the same way or with the same vitriol that is in the OP. You just don't hear that much here in Canada. No one bats an eyelash if someone says, "I live in low-income housing." Okay.... So how 'bout we go to Tim's? I'll buy....
And live in a rich, snobby area peppered with low income housing apartments here and there. I've also lived in a trailer. No one cares.

(966 posts)If they want to attack us with such a blatantly racist remark, I would like to point out that an OVERWHELMING number of people that vote Republican here in rural Pennsylvania (lower class whites who do, in fact, cling to their guns and religion) are LESS Informed, LESS intelligent, and LESS engaged in the process than anyone who voted for the President in urban areas.

(50,949 posts)has not been insulted by the Republicans and who continues to identify as a Republican is a shoe salesman in Kansas City named Lester.
Take a bow, Lester! We'll wave to you from our apartments.
And Republicans, bite me. My apartment's nice.

(4,484 posts)saying "the underclass" voting in large numbers were the reason the Rethugs lost. It turned my stomach. When he was chided for that language, he smirked and laughed.
It was really blatantly racist and awful.

(3,696 posts)or do they believe only Democrats live in apartments. Too sad that Orca failed or they could have done a better job finding their voters to get them to the polls.

(3,784 posts)................here's what this guy is whining about: "They got valid, registered voters to come to the polls and VOTE! How DARE they!!! They're POOR!!! Their opinions don't matter!!! Poor people aren't even smart enough to HAVE opinions. That's why they're POOR!!!"

(50,949 posts)Yes it is maddening, and they are gross, but you have to admit it's a little funny to watch as they keep hitting themselves over the head with sledgehammers. I believe this is what is referred to as being "hoisted on their own petards."

(48,217 posts)the Republican noise machine tells its zombie followers that this happened only because "all the people on welfare" voted for the Dems. Riiiiiight....50+% of all Americans are on welfare?
The Republicanites are diabolically clever here. They tell non-union working class people (most of whom do work very hard) that they and they alone are hard-working Americans and that the Dems want everyone dependent on the government so they can stay in power. They talk as if 90% of tax dollars go to support dark-skinned teenagers who have a baby every year. They know exactly which buttons to push.
In the run-up to this year's election, where we had a voter ID constitutional amendment on the ballot, the Republican Noise Machine was telling the zombies that the Obama (2008), and Senator Al Franken and Governor Mark Dayton (2010) won their races only because the Democrats bused welfare mothers and illegal immigrants from precinct to precinct.

(17,609 posts)a lot of the crime, homelessness, domestic violence and job loss in this country they double down on their bullshit policies and make the problem worse. Many generations have nothing to look forward to the media wants to pretend that this is some new phenomenon.
People are more aware now than ever and they do not believe the garbage they have thrown out their for decades they caused these problems and want to continue them for another 10 years or more.
There are many more people in this country than there were at the times of Eisenhower,George Washington,Roosevelt,etc..

In other words republicons:WE SEE YOU!!!
