That is such a powerful civil rights message.
And the discussions here on DU about possible vice presidential choices prove that it must remain center stage right now.
Some people feel that the country is not ready for that.
Can an African American Presidential candidate have a Jewish Vice President?
Again, some people feel the country is not ready for that.
Can an openly gay married man be on the ticket in 2024?
And yet once again, some people feel the country is not ready for that.
To those doubts, I say the time is NOW.
We are Democrats. It's our responsibility to help move society forward.
Our candidates are not weather vanes needing to test which way the wind is blowing, no, they are LEADERS.
Not only has the country been changing for the better, we Democrats have worked to make those changes possible.
This is not the time to drag our feet. It is time to light the way forward.

I think this is what younger people are longing for. Dont do politics as usual.
We have plenty of qualified candidates who would be wonderful. I understand the concerns but the political calculus to be cautious in order not to offend or scare away are disappearing imo. Again, the number of new voters who will show up would be astonishing.
IMO. 😉

(26,314 posts)to damn the torpedoes and go full speed ahead when it is reasonable to be concerned that while water is good and necessary that it is possible we are risking giving the electorate a drink from a firehose with too much change when there is already an unproven element on the ticket.
If Harris believes Pete on the ticket is going to lift it then I'll back her 110% but my advice would be another direction.
Pete can promote to Secretary of State to get his foreign policy bonafides up or look at replacing Whitmer or going for a Senate seat to bolster his credentials and get into running for President himself in 2028 or 2032 but right now is too caution to the wind for me when we have yet to get a woman across the finish line as it is.
