What is "news" tv show supposed to cover? On DU I read what is happening, such as a horrific storm

in the Phillipines. Wanted to hear more about it. Morning Joke is continuing with 3 hours of "How can we get a republic elected in 2016?" It is endless. Turned to the Today Show: nonstop Kate is preggers and in the hospital. Bill Press has some good guests on: fiscal cliff coverage. I don't need any catheters, but the ones that don't scratch sound pretty good. All the shows have clips of what Jon Stewart said last night.

when they put on their serious faces for 5 minutes and talk about all the inconveniently serious stuff.

I don't know, they all suck anymore. I gave up on TV news a long time ago.

And propaganda.

It's what they've spent decades trying to convince us we want.

In my case - and obviously yours as well - they would be wrong.

They are basically talk/opinion shows. One has to catch network news at certain hours just to get a brief mention or two of actual news on tv.

TV is just for entertainment these days, imho.

"Morning Joe" are not news shows and don't even present themselves as news shows, they are commentary and opinion shows. Even in a perfect world with decent media, a commentary show would still not be a news show. Even commentary shows that are more to my liking such as Maddow are not news shows, they are opinion and commentary shows. Rachel's staff as sharp as they are does not include investigative journalists in the field reporting on stories.
MSNBC is 'the place for politics'...that's their slogan as I recall. Not a mention of the news....

And you want it covered, who do you think they are? BBC?

Serious answer, while in jest, American media rarely covers matters outside her borders. We are not alone. With the exception of few outlets, most media covers local and national news.

Not to mention answers to critical questions ie: has the fetus been involved in any scandals yet!?

To my knowledge the corporate media hasn't even interviewed the little tyke yet!

Thanks for the thread, morningglory.
