They are whipping up hysterics about non-existent "conspiracies" to grab guns.
National Rifle Association executive vice president and columnist Wayne LaPierre has unveiled a new conspiracy theory, alleging that NBC sportscaster Bob Costas' discussion of the murder-suicide involving NFL player Jovan Belcher was part of a plan by "media conglomerates" to ban guns.

(11,464 posts)the NRA is like the Berlin wall, in the process of coming down.
or perhaps like the Knights who say Ni.
they are sweating bullets, but they won't admit it.
won't be quick or easy, but it is happening.
all that is needed is a complete reframing.

(11,464 posts)they never though had a million dollar suit providing soundbytes
just like James Baker kept saying there was a count, and a recount, and people used that mantra ad nauseum
except for the fact that the only recount that mattered was stopped by the US Supreme Court
12/12/2000
had the dems had a better spokesperson back then, who outspent and outshouted BAker, the perception would have gone the other way
Now the NRA has the great Equalizer
and like Snow White sang the people are singing "Some day my Prince will come"
well the prince known as mayor mike has arrived.
many people used to smoke. they don't know.
and they didn't even need to ban cigarettes.
it's like a flu shot.
not everybody needs to get it
but if enough get it, it puts a ring around the flu and gives them nowhere to hold

(12,412 posts)are major shareholders of the investment firm that has bought most arms manufacturers over the last few years. I can't remember the name but it is easy to find.
The only reason they defend the 2nd amendment is to sell arms and they have no moral thoughts on the consequences.

(22,144 posts)Which of the NRA BoD members do you think are major shareholders in what holding company? IIRC there are 75 of them, including celebrities. Are all of them "major stockholders" or are you just shooting your mouth off?

ProgressiveProfessor
(22,144 posts)Which of its major shareholders are on the NRA BoD? Your unquantified claim earlier would mean all 75 are major shareholders, specious on the face of it. Do you even know who is on the NRA BoD?

Nugent is an idiot, the others worse, but when people make preposterous claims, they need to be called on it.

I dropped the NRA's name when I talked to the phone contact at my gop congressman's office when I phoned in my opposition. I thought it would help since the GOP and NRA are so tight.

(3,249 posts)The claim was made that "NRA BoD along with the french guy are major shareholders of the investment firm..." Said firm later identified as Cerberus. I call the question. I want to see some cites showing which board members are "major stockholders" or I call the poster incredible.

Who cares whether those despicable right wingers own stock in that particular company. Nugent, Norquist, Bolton, gun manufacturers, etc., are damn sure promoting right wing bigotry, greed and callousness. Even you cannot deny that.

This subthread is about a specious claim made earlier. Your strawmen are not topical and further add to you looking foolish.
