The new normal is an enemy Teabagger who needs to be faced everyday until the House is retaken. That is the new normal. Brinkmanship politics is the way it will be. We can't blink.

We really need to take back the House before the next Presidential election. In my humble opinion, we should devote more energies to the House than the Presidency. That is the branch that represents the people and the Republicans are unfortunately incapable of that.

I've voiced concern that some are jumping up and down, dancing, celebrating, and otherwise thinking that the end of the Republican Party is at hand. That's very short-sighted, IMO. That party is like a bad penny, it always comes back. It has to be beaten in the political arena over and over again. It's never left the arena. It sees survival as not sharing. It understands cooperation only when there is a personal profit..It is the darker half of the human soul. It must always be watched. When vigilance waned and 2010 hit us, we saw what inattention results in. I have high hopes that the lesson has been relearned, that we will grow to where we can legislatively return representative districts far more competitive and based on reasonable and equable areas. Stop the shoestring gerrymandering. That should be our short-term aim. Take back the statehouses and restore non-party redistricting. We should have done better than we did in the last elections. While we did well. We are still shy in the House. 2014 will be very important, Stay vigilant and fight them, the alternative is not acceptable.

Look at the delegations Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin are sending to the House in 2013. Better than 2-1 Republicans. And these are states where Democrats WON the popular vote for house races.

We lost bigger in 2010 than it seemed at first: the census enabled the GOP to gerrymander almost perfectly.

We'd need a complete blowout, a monumental landslide, to put these things right. And we have to hold state legislatures in 2020 to re-draw the lines.

their peculiar coalition of racists, greedheads, religious fanatics, and survivalists is remarkably well-stitched, with Faux News pulling the needle. While I'd dearly love your scenario to occur, I think our best chance will be outgrowing them through natural demographic attrition.

Still, I feel it's absolutely essential we field strong candidates to contest every one of those midwest seats -- make them pay dearly to hold on to their 50.001% districts, and who knows? Perhaps there'll be a surprise or two...

have the Senate and the WH.

So, never give in to them, ever. I hope we don't start hearing excuses about 'having to compromise' because no, we do not have to compromise. THEY have to compromise and the best way to that is to call their bluff and tell them not to talk to us until they are ready to grow up. Then every day send out Dems all over TV to tell the people 'they're at it again, they do not care about the American people, they are refusing to do the job they were sent to do'. Enough of that on a regular basis and they will stop. But if they sense any weakness at all, why would they stop?
