I was thinking to myself today how I do not know any family who does not have someone with some form of cancer. May your son do well with his treatment and live to see his boy grow and prosper...

(22,483 posts)And a hug for you. I'm sure everything will be fine. And also remember how advanced we are now in medicine. And give that little boy some good old chocolate almond milk every day! Almonds are one of the best anti-cancer foods that we have and you can buy the juice, (milk) it right at the supermarket. I used it on cereal all the time.

(98 posts)Good vibes and maybe some good advice. Vitamin D3 deficiency has been implicated in the onset of 87% of all cancers. Studies show that all cancer patients with higher blood serum levels of Vitamin D3 have better outcomes. Taking a dose of VD3 every day until his operation would be in his best interests. Since the operation is so soon I would recommend 50,000 IU a day until then. VD3 lasts about seven weeks in the body's system. This amount is large - but completely safe. Afterward he should drop down to a dose between 5,000 and 10,000 IU daily for the rest of his life. He'd want to watch his blood serum levels to keep them high and should adjust a daily dose accordingly. The Vitamin D Council recommends blood serum levels between 90-100 ng/ml for all cancer survivors. Toxicity becomes an issue at somewhat over 200 ng/ml.
Studies have also shown that patients in ICU units with higher blood serum levels also have better outcomes. Deficiency is a life and death matter.
More at the VD Council's website.
