The fact that there are multiple sects of Christianity doesn't mean Christianity isn't a religion.

7. I know Christians who don't believe that.

They believe that Jesus's teachings as presented in the Gospels are important, and that the Bible should be understood as a symbolic work that was written by human beings in a certain historical context, which nevertheless has deep significance for their lives. They leave the talk of divinity or spirituality to a more mystical realm and focus more on that which has personal resonance to them, such as the teaching of the Golden Rule, etc.

10. And there are people who claim to be "Jews for Jesus"

They claim they are Jewish, but believe Jesus was the messiah.

That doesn't mean they are actually Jewish. That means they're deluded.

11. Not so much deluded as acknowledging that interpretation is an element of "faith" in any case...

...Or at least that is how I see it. "Religion," "faith," "philosophy," and "divinity" are all abstract terms, many of them quite culturally specific. Syncretism, adaptation, and variety have been with us as long as humankind has been with us. Even many of Paul's teachings (his actual teachings, not the ones penned in his name as a pedagogical exercise after his death, for which he commonly receives criticism in the modern day) center on the practical adoption of the customs where one is trying to preach. So much of Christianity's formative doctrines are pulled straight out of Greco-Roman philosophy.

Now, if you are a person of belief my intention is not to offend or dismiss your interpretation of what that faith means. But I do want to see other interpretations respected as well.

If he can't shout loud enough to convince you of that, he'll have your mic turned off. Problem solved
