Insurance data stolen from Allied, Nationwide companies.


My first reaction is who would do something like this and why? And my second reaction was to recall all that information stolen from banks before things started going south for the economy a few years back. Remember all those thefts of data??? We still don't know who took it and where it went. I think we need to keep an eye on this. I expect it to happen again with all of the changes coming in the area of healthcare. Who benefits from this knowledge? Is it just data for people to run really pedestrian scams? Sorry to sound so alarmist but it just called to mind all of that bank and credit card info theft, none of it resolved, and DU discussed that in depth.

A security breach at Nationwide Insurance and Allied Insurance means the personal information of more than 91,000 of their Iowa customers may have been stolen.

The Iowa Attorney General’s Office said Tuesday, computer hackers accessed the personal information October 3rd. Nationally, around 1.1 million people are affected by the data breach.

Information such as Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and driver’s license numbers for policy holders was compromised by the hackers....
