Rant: Obama's pool microphone

Was just now watching the TV. Obama is delivering a speech to the business round table when the mike goes silent.
It was a very interesting speech on getting the world economy back on track. Just frustrating as how often do mikes fail now days? [/Edit]

I should quit watching TV as things like this tend to rattle me as I expect more when the President of the United States is the one speaking.
I suppose I just get a bit frustrated by those who post as though everyone is watching the same things they are. You are BY NO MEANS the only one that has ever done it 
. We have some serial assumers here that have done it on multiple occasions.

Between the President and the listener at home there is the mic, mic cable, mic preamp, digital encoders, satellite uplinks and downlinks , master control switchers and so on and so forth... a whole menagerie of electronic equipment in a chain that brings the signal to its destination in your living room. We try really hard to keep the Audio and Video signals running smoothly but sometimes the gremlins win. 
I've been working in television for almost 15 years now and I can attest to the existence of Gremlins. You can't see them but you can see where they've been. When something craps out, then returns to normal operation some time later and we can't find the cause for the failure, it's the work of Gremlins
sometimes it resembles a modern day Rube Goldberg contraption more than it does cutting edge technology
