Egg truck crashes, leading to morning scramble for commuters

Updated: 12/05/2012 08:53:34 AM EST

CHELMSFORD -- State Police officials said a tractor-trailer hauling crates of eggs veered off the northbound lanes of Interstate 495 near a highway rest area and into the woods early Wednesday morning, creating havoc for commuters.

The 5:15 a.m. accident involved another tractor-trailer, which wound up in the median, and forced police to close one of the highway's three lanes.

Police said the 18-wheeler that wound up in the woods traveled roughly 50 yards and suffered a ruptured fuel line, resulting in a gas spill.

By approximately 6:52 a.m. all three lanes had reopened but police said they planned on waiting until the morning rush hour was over to move the truck from the grassy median.

Looks like a B-17 in the front but the tail is too small? And why does the image change to a video when I reply? Are you some kind of internet magician?

Okay, you edited while I was replying.

The copy-paste had a hiccough; sometimes the 'c' key on my key-board fails to register, and the last thing I had done with it was checking that a hosted image registered properly for later posting. I was a bit surprised to see it pop up myself instead of the song.

The model is of a machine of the 50th Reconnaissance Squadron at Hickham Field in Hawaii, as it appeared in early summer of 1941; I finished it last weekend.

The 17D was the last version to use the original vertical tail surface; from the 17E on, the larger, more familiar fin and rudder were employed. the re-design was to give better stability and control at high altitudes, where the air is thinner.

And thanks for explaining away my confusion. I thought I had a vague memory of a redesign to the tail, but I just glanced at a few images I brought up on a search.

My grandfather washed out of bombardier school for those in Texas. He had a perfect ground school but couldn't hit anything from the air. They made him an artillery surveyor.

I should start modeling again - it's a fun hobby.

On March 18, 1965, a 35-year-old truck driver, Eugene P. Seski,[2] was on his way to deliver a load of bananas to Scranton, Pennsylvania. Seski, an employee of Fred Carpentier, who operated a small truck line in Scranton, was returning from the boat piers at Weehawken, New Jersey where he had picked up his load. While the exact information is somewhat lost in time, the load was clearly destined for the "wholesale block" on the western edge of Lackawanna Avenue in Scranton, the local A&P Warehouse or to Halem Hazzouri Bananas, the premier banana purveyor in the area at the time. Seski was driving a 1950s Brockway diesel truck tractor with a 35 ft (11 m) semi-trailer and was headed down Rt. 307 when he suddenly lost control. The "two-mile" descent extends from Lake Scranton down to the bottom of Moosic Street (41.396005°N 75.648251°WCoordinates: 41.396005°N 75.648251°W), a 500 ft (150 m) drop in elevation in little more than a mile, where the truck eventually crashed at the southwest corner of Moosic St and S. Irving Ave. For some reason, probably failure of its brake system, the truck cruised into Scranton at approximately 90 mi (140 km) an hour, sideswiping a number of cars before it crashed(probably as a direct result of Seski deliberately flipping it over to avoid killing any pedestrians or motorists, or striking an automotive service station on Moosic Street that, had it been struck, would have exploded in flames and caused greater loss of life), killing Seski himself and spilling bananas everywhere when the rig came to rest.

I have seen these things with my very own eyes.
