If asked "Who are you?," rocker Pete Townshend might reply, in part, "A neoconservative."

If asked "Who are you?," rocker Pete Townshend might reply, in part, "A neoconservative."

The Who guitarist revealed that he is "a bit of a neocon" during an interview with ABC News. Townshend and Roger Daltrey sat down with ABC to talk about their work for teens with cancer with the Who Cares campaign, and Townshend wasn't afraid to delve into the subject of politics.

“I try and stay away from American politics because I’m a bit of a neocon," Townshend, a British citizen, told ABC. "I’m not that popular with everybody.” Adding, "I like the idea of America as the world's police force. Then we don't have to do it. You guys sort it out."

A "neoconservative" is officially defined as "a conservative who advocates the assertive promotion of democracy and United States national interest in international affairs including through military means," according to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary. It is also "a formal liberal espousing conservatism."

Pete is a sick man who belongs on a sex offender registry not on tour nor bragging about his work with CHILDREN.

And I have not read one good thing about this man. Pedophile. Control freak within the band. Now he's a Neocon.

Anybody remember that awful white jumpsuit he used to wear on stage? I'd buy that at auction just to burn it. Yes I would.

10. Pete Townshend's a provacateur

Pete Townshend is also more than a bit of a provacateur - he was when he smashed guitars, he has been in countless controversial statements over the years, he remains so.

I am currently listening to his very long, very pretentious, memoir. This is a man who loves to hear himself talk, who will freely talk about things he doesn't know all that much about, so I'm not going to get too bent out of shape over his simplistic understanding of the word "neocon".

He is also frustratingly brilliant. Never one to want to please the crowd, he delights in raising hackles, pissing people off. His memoir is constrictively linear, nowhere near as much fun as Neil Young's or Bob Dylan's (where's Volume 2, Bob?). But it has its moments of insights, and documents a fascinating life and time in the history of popular music.

I wouldn't be so quick to label the man a pedophile. He was the victim of sexual abuse as a child, and he seems to be someone so intent on analyzing everything to death, that I can buy his "research" explanation. Clearly, I don't know, but it's not that much of a stretch to believe his story.

The Who was a great band - simultaneously prone to pretentiousness and silliness, but technically perfect, and capable of soaring, emotional peaks. And Pete Townshend's many, many releases of his home demos are revelatory in themselves. For a little known, great album, look up his collaboration with Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces, Rough Mix.

That's not a neocon. That's a chickenshit. On second thought, I guess there really isn't much difference.

13. He was caught buying kiddie porn with his own credit card

I'd like to believe him. If I remember correctly, he bought some kiddie porn online with a credit card in his own name. You would think if he really had ill intent, he wouldn't have used his own credit card.
