https://www.wral.com/story/harris-leads-trump-in-new-poll-of-nc-in-drastic-reversal/21577353/North Carolina voters have swung to the left by double digits since Kamala Harris took over the Democratic Party's presidential campaign, a new Cook Political Report poll found.
"Donald Trump is now trailing behind Kamala Harris in North Carolina and several other key swing states in the race for president, according to a new poll released Wednesday by the nonpartisan Cook Political Report.
It's the first major poll of this election cycle that shows the Republican former president trailing his Democratic challenger in North Carolina. It was released the same day Trump gave a speech in Asheville, and just days after his campaign bought its first television ads in North Carolina signs that the Trump campaign now sees North Carolina as being in play.
Trump was routinely favored over President Joe Biden in polls before Biden dropped out of the race on July 21. Multiple polls this spring and summer showed Trump up by nearly double digits over Biden in North Carolina. That was a stark contrast to 2020, when Trump won the state by just 1.5% of the vote.
But the Cook Political Report poll on Wednesday found Harris leading Trump by 2 percentage points a 10-point swing in favor of Democrats from May, when its poll that month found Trump leading Biden by 8 points."

I'm betting a couple of those Likely Rs to will move to Lean R in the not too distant future too.

She hasn't seemed to hit a wall yet.
Trump seems to have a pretty low ceiling ...

(5,511 posts)"NC runs very secure elections
North Carolina elections are very secure both in terms of protecting the election from hackers and how ballots are handled, said Col. (retired) James Hardaway, with the Ballot Security, Cybersecurity and List Maintenance Committee. Hardaway served in Army intelligence for 27 years and after retirement moved into cybersecurity and modernizing systems.
Im trained to see the bad things that can happen in technology, he said. Im very secure in how I feel about our elections. The public is not.
North Carolina voters use paper ballots and its voting systems are relatively simple, which Hardaway said was an advantage in terms of security."
I've been an election worker in several NC precincts over the years and I believe if all states were as good as NC, we wouldn't have to worry unless an extremist Repub Gov took over and ruined it.

(121 posts)I wonder can I dare to hope that some of that shift away from dRumpf is occurring here in the SW corner of the state. Even among the arts community quite a lot of folks are cult members. Gathering of veteran groups is always shaded by red hats, unlike my old USAF fatigue green one. The county wide results will undoubtedly go majority for the orange hued one, but I'd like to see the percentage drop a few points less than the 70+ percent rethug it normally does.

(363 posts)Just not the time to be complacent. Ive thought all along that Biden and now Harris would easily win. Once the convention comes and her policies are out there, her numbers should grow even more.
Weve got this. We just need to keep getting even more voters for her.

(6,832 posts)And, what a slap in the face to the NCGOP! It would be epic.
(The state is still gerrymandered to hell and back, and seemingly on a race to the bottom with some other states, but still... I know more than a few people around there who would go ballistic. They have been insufferable since the rethug takeover and this would pop that arrogance bubble quite effectively.)
