Kerry blasts Santorum's opposition to disability treaty

Sen. John Kerry fired back Wednesday at former Sen. Rick Santorum's strong opposition to a U.N. treaty promoting the rights of the disabled that failed in the Senate this week.

"Rick Santorum was just not factual," Kerry said on CNN's "The Situation Room."

"Now what he did was he gave some people here an excuse to hide behind ... when they know that there are people who hate the United Nations, who don't want any United Nations treaty, and so they gave them a reason to be able to say, ‘this is why I'm voting against it,’" Kerry said.

"He either simply hasn’t read the treaty or doesn't understand it or he was just not factual in what he said," Kerry said, "because the United Nations has absolutely zero, zero, I mean zero ability to order or to tell or to even - I mean they can suggest - but they have no legal capacity to tell the United States to do anything under this treaty. Nothing.”

3. I'm pretty sure the fact that we have a black President is the reason this didn't pass the Senate

Too many Republicans don't consider him "legitimate". Therefore they will oppose everything he does, even if they agree with it.

I just can't believe this didn't pass because of crazy ideals from people like Santorum.

why that is more dangerous for them in the primaries than disrespecting the likes of Bob Dole and many disabled veterans. I guess I do not understand their logic. I know that the teabaggers are crazy but are they that gone ?

You know when the Tea party first started an aquaintence tried to recruit me into the movement. Why she thought I would be interested stil baffles me but when she called President Obama Mr. Obama in a snarky tone of voice I knew it was something that I would not want to be a part of. I am still amazed that they got as much traction as they did... Anyway I guess they must be nuttier and more dangerous than I had first thought!

movement funded and provided with organizational assistance by the Kochs and others like them and heavily promoted by FOX News. Having a whole network behind them was very effective, and once FOX starts the ball rolling, the rest of the coorprate media have an excuse to promote that BS as well.

Propaganda, especially when well funded by billionaires, is pretty darned effective.
