What are the chances we get James Clyburn to run for US Senate (SC)

I have always been impressed by Rep Clyburn and he's one of the biggest political names in South Carolina. Downside of course is it is South Carolina and Clyburn is 72 years old. Of course Clyburn is one of the senior members of the US House (I think he's like 3rd in line for senority) which might be something he might not want to give up.

Thoughts?

BTW if you haven't read - Jim DeMint is leaving the Senate. Of course Haley is going to find another nut job to replace DeMint but that means SC will have 2 senate races in 2014 and not just 1 (Grahman is up for re-election and an election to finish out the term for whomever is appointed to DeMint's seat)

Firstly, he'd be giving up a ton of seniority and his leadership position if he went from one house to another. Also I don't see a black man winning a statewide office in South Carolina...especially as a Democrat. Might be a good chance to find a fresh face and try to build around that.

I'd love to see Colbert as a US Senator. Him and Franken working side-by-side - you could sell tickets and I'd buy one. But he would have to give up his show if he were to consider the run.

Seriously, actually. Very seriously.

If one voice can change a room...then SC can elect a Democrat to the US Senate.

and who can win a general election in SC are 2 very different things.

I think the man who ran against Haley would be good. He learned a lot in that race. Vincent Sheheen also has a basic group in shape from that run. He is a good candidate.

Of course, there is Alvin Greene.....

Dem candidate to run against Graham. That way they can't glom on to one race. Make them work for both.
In addition, whoever runs will get experience and name recognition. They would be set up to take on the Repub in 2016.
