Did Jim DeMint have his Waterloo?

http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/conservative-sen-jim-demint-resigning-from-senate-to-head-conservative-think-tank/2012/12/06/3f815f26-3fbe-11e2-a2d9-822f58ac9fd5_story.html

Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), a leading conservative voice in the Senate, will resign his seat in January to become the next president of the conservative think tank the Heritage Foundation, a sudden move with far-reaching implications.

“It’s been an honor to serve the people of South Carolina in the United States Senate for the past eight years, but now it’s time for me to pass the torch to someone else and take on a new role in the fight for America’s future,” DeMint said in a statement Thursday morning.

Rather than wrangle a bunch of senators, it seems a lot simpler to make policy pronouncements from on high and let somebody else try to make it happen. That makes it easier for him to blame others.

This timing is interesting indeed...he takes the big money gig cause he'll be stuck in the minority and not in a leadership role. I'm real curious if he had made some kind of a power play and came up empty. There's a lot of pressure on turtleman to keep the obstructionists in line and DeMint just got tired of waiting for him to fail.

I kinda think this song is more fitting for DeMint...

Is there something really nasty or unsavory that's going to come flowing downhill in the coming weeks, ala Lance Armstrong?

I think he did meet his Waterloo. The people didn't buy it and the GOP is trying to shake the Teabagger brand. You can't do it when you have King Jim hanging around in the power structure. Why does a Senator with four years left on his term suddenly just up and leave? Because he was pushed out, maybe.

He was leading the tea party express and it just derailed badly. He saw the writing on the wall and decided to take the money while the gettin' was good. Figures he'll have more power there than he'll ever get in the Senate.

This just may be the only time I agree with the man. He is getting older. Time to squirrel away some money before it is too late.
