I'm human and like all humans I make typos and obvious grammar/spelling errors.
dballance noticed one in my recent thread and instead of being some annoying jerk that has to point it out in the thread in some snarky way, this DUer politely sent me a private IM telling me about it.
It was weird because at first glance I was offended, I suppose many of us get that way when someone points out 'you made a mistake'.
But then I realized that dballance was just showing class by privately telling me about it so I could fix the mistake.
I wish more DUers would think like that when pointing out other people's mistakes! We all make mistakes - let's show some class when we find them!
Thank you dballance!!!

I mentioned I had a cat (Marty Cat) who on one of his cat sprints through the house jumped up on the fireplace mantel and knocked off the urn containing my dogs ashes (Misha). I was on my way out the door to meet my carpool, so I just stuck the urn in the microwave until I could crazy glue the lid back on that night. I stuck Misha in the microwave because my husband hated my Marty Cat, and I did not want him to see what Marty had done. When the urn fell, it chipped a piece out of the granite hearth as well as knocking the lid off the urn. When my husband got up he opened the microwave to reheat his coffee and Marty & I were both busted.
So someone came on and told me that you never reheat coffee in the microwave, and the only true coffee was French Press. I felt like I had been scolded by one of my grade school teachers. Oh well, welcome to DU....

(7,288 posts)I once put a small arrangement of flowers in the microwave to keep them from chewing on the leaves and knocking them onto the floor.
I always reheat coffee in the microwave and tend to drink the brand that was on sale (don't have much of a discerning palett here..lol). What a petty and snobbish attitude to welcome someone to DU with. Hope your stay has been better and continues to be
PS. Thanks for the reply

(2,953 posts)I don't post much, but I do scan all day long. I am retired now, so I find myself pulling up the website in the middle of the night when I can't sleep. I have found I am not the only insomniac.

(95,337 posts)But it's one thing when someone posts in your thread - 'Yo dumbass can you spell' and another when someone sends you a polite message to you privately pointing out your mistakes.

(1,843 posts)Wow! I've seen this with the letters out of order, but this is the first time I've seen it with numbers. From an email I received.
Good example of a Brain Study: If you can read this OUT LOUD you have a strong mind.
And better than that: Alzheimers is a long, long, ways down the road before it ever gets anywhere near you.

(3,510 posts)On election night I sent my very first OP and got a very snarky response from someone which made me feel like a real idiot. The following DUers came to my rescue with kind responses to my OP: randome, Posteritatis, obxhead, Jim, sufommich, & slampoet (& a special thanks to ragass who welcomed me with a warning that it can be tough sometimes here).

(8,217 posts)A lot of things can be avoided if someone would privately message someone with an objectionable post.
Particularly if it is only one or two words in it.
In that way, they can correct it without having to deal with the Jury system.
I think it is a bit neater and might avoid conflict.
