OMG - Reid just spanked McConnell!
In this afternoon's edition of "What fun it is to have a unified Democratic Party that knows what its doing," Senate Majority Leader Reid just spanked Senator Minority Leader McConnell...big time.
McConnell brought up a bill that would allow the President to raise the debt ceiling unilaterally unless Congress mustered a 2/3 majority to stop him. He assumed Reid would block the vote rather than see it go down in defeat.
Instead, Senator Reid said, "Go ahead, make my day" and McConnell wound up having to filibuster his own bill.
The Republican leader objects to his own idea, Reid declared on the floor. So I guess we have a filibuster of his own bill.
McConnell claimed he never agreed to hold a simple majority vote on the bill.
What were talking about here is a perpetual debt ceiling grant in effect to the president. Matters of this level of controversy always require 60 votes, the GOP leader said.
Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) scoffed at that notion that a senator would ask for a vote on a bill in good faith while requiring that it be filibuster-proof.
This may be a moment in Senate history, when a senator made a proposal that, when given an opportunity for a vote on that proposal, filibustered his own proposal, he said. I dont think this has ever happened before.
If you're not enjoying how badly the Republicans are getting beaten these days, you're not paying close enough attention.
This is a GREAT time to be a Democrat!!!!!!!!

So maybe he was/is gay or bi, or maybe he took a slightly less-drastic approach to the problem than Ted Nugent did.

May, 9 2008
On Wednesday, the House took up the seemingly uncontroversial H. Res. 1113, The resolution initially passed 412 to 0, until Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS) rose in protest:
Mr. Speaker, I ask for a recorded vote because Im sure every member wants their mother to know that they have supported the goals of Mothers Day.
Tiahrts mother, however, may be disappointed to know that her son did not support Mothers Day. He and 177 other Republicans decided to cast their vote against mothers.
Rep. Jeff Fortenberry (R-NE), the original sponsor of the bill, also ended up voting against it.
Ooopsies this is not the 1st time the R's have used the office to play games. They used this so called vote to block debate on something.

They are human Devils, so ugly so distorted and so evil. Evil can be observed in their thoughts and in their hearts. Evil can be traced in their deeds. Evil can be seen in their lives. They have forsaken God for the Devil.

Come to think of it, can any other type of person actually exist in today's Republican Party?

(82,383 posts)that he did not want to see a vote on? And it went down in defeat, which he would have wanted? That seems to be giving the President a power he would not want.

(9 posts)Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and other Democrats were left to marvel Thursday as Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell ended up filibustering his own legislation to raise the federal debt ceiling in order to prevent its passage.
Although McConnell apparently brought up the bill thinking it would not attract Democratic support, Democrats called his bluff and the Kentucky Republican was forced to filibuster it apparently marking the first time in U.S. history a senator blocked his own bill, according to Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.).
