Dana Perino: Female victims of violence should "make better decisions..."

Appearing on Fox News Wednesday evening, Dana Perino suggested female victims of violence should "make better decisions" in order to escape harm.

The comment came during a discussion about the murder of 22-year-old Kasandra Perkins, who was killed by her boyfriend, NFL player Jovan Belcher. On Saturday, Belcher shot his girlfriend repeatedly, and then drove to the Kansas City Chiefs' facility, where he killed himself.

The couple was reportedly having problems for months. According to the police, Kansas City Chiefs officials were aware of the ongoing strife and even provided the couple with counseling.

In the aftermath of the murder-suicide, NBC Sports' Bob Costas took the opportunity to advocate for better gun control. "If Jovan Belcher didn't possess a gun, he and Kasandra Perkins would both be alive today," he said, quoting another columnist during a halftime segment on NBC's "Sunday Night Football."

On Fox News' "The Five," the hosts argued the opposite, suggesting that if women in domestic violence situations were armed, they'd be able to protect themselves better.

Perino, the former White House press secretary, offered a slightly different approach.

"I think it skirts the issue," she said. "Women are victims of violence all the time."

The only thing that makes this different is fame.

45% of women who are murdered, die at the hands of their domestic partner.

I kind of agree with the sentiment when talking about how (the old belief) that women are attracted to bad boys.

People, as a whole need to make better decisions as to who they associate with. If abusive, violent or disreputable men were weeded out from having their genes passed on, you may see a better bunch of adults in a generation or 2.

But, ugh.
To have to agree with Dana in any way shape or form is distasteful.

anything said by somebody we don't agree with, then we are just as bad as the right.

I can't do that with a good conscience.

As an outright statement, who could disagree. But so should men. She didnt mention that the shooter could have made better choices. But the context inferred, at least to me, that Ms. Perino was blaming the victim. The lady was dead because of her bad choices. This is a typical rationalization used by Republicans.

5. Yes, women should make "better decisions." As they do so, they need to remember to not be so

uptight, not be such a bitch, quit taking things so seriously, lighten up a bit, and ask themselves why their partners are hitting them -- because maybe dude had a hard day at work, or she just asked him one too many times where he was last night.

and formed vigilante groups to punish violence offenders, do you really think that conservatives would applaud that? They would immediately find a way to limit the access of women to firearms and to socialization with each other. They try to force us to act like victims, then criticize us for doing it.

The news reports said that he had been physically abusing her for months, her family had known about it.

Women need to understand: these men don't need to be reformed, you need to leave them at the first sign of violence. There is no excuse for a 250lb male to ever beat up a woman half his size. LEAVE HIM DON'T FALL FOR HIS BULLSHIT EXCUSES. Just to be clear, this is not blame the victim, it's just common sense.
