One of Stephanie Miller's callers asked the crucial question about Jim DeMint.

So, which is it?

he wants to be in control of the philosophical bent of the Party when the fight ends. By the way, its clear that he sees a future for the Tea Party.

"The only way I can lose this election is if I'm caught in bed with either a dead girl or a live boy."

DeMint was in a safe seat, and I hadn't heard anything to indicate he was in trouble until he suddenly resigned. This makes me wonder...

I don't think it's a coincidence that this happened just days earlier. From (The Hill):

...Boehner and Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) had attracted criticism for being too genial...The Mr. Nice Guy management style appears to be over. One lawmaker quipped that Boehner is now “almost DeLay-like.”

...Boehner addressed the firestorm over the removal of four lawmakers from plum committee assignments at the weekly GOP conference meeting...Conservative lawmakers...want(ed) answers as to the “crimes committed” by the four members...They are also not pleased that the members were not called and were alerted to the news by the media.

From PoliticsUSA.com:

Conservatives suspect that Speaker Boehner (R-OH) was behind The Republican Steering Committee (Boehner chairs it) voting to remove Reps. Justin Amash (R-MI) and Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) from the House Budget Committee...(But it) is reasonable to assume that Amash and Huelskamp were kicked off at the request or at least mention of Paul Ryan (R-WI)...(who has been) kept on by the very same Steering Committee as budget chairman...

Amash and Huelskamp voted against Paul Ryan’s budget because it did not cut spending enough...Party leadership must feel they had to be cut off from having the ability to obstruct the GOP from making deals they need to make in order to spare their reputation more damage...(T)he conservatives’ plan is to get 16 Republicans to refuse to vote for Boehner for Speaker in the new session, so that they can get “real conservative” ideas passed...

In typical Republican fashion, the Party let the losers learn about their ouster the hard way – with the public, on the Internet from the media...

DeMint got a softer landing because he either saw the writing on the wall or he's in danger of being hit with something majorly blackmail-able. And by the way, public humiliation is part of the punishment -- don't they know that's the Republican way?

If not for him propping up fringe candidates in GOP primaries, the GOP would control the Senate. This is a move to get him out of the way. Much like Palin's Fox News gig was a move to get her out of the way.
