I have been an avid daily reader here on DU for a long time. Sadly I have not posted in a long time. Earlier this year my 5yo son Trevor was diagnosed with stage IV Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. It is a very aggressive cancer and by the time it was diagnosed it had spread thru his lymph nodes from the main mass in his calf up to his groin. We are currently in week 32 of 54 of our treatment roadmap. My son has had 7 different chemos and countless other meds so far including almost nightly injections of neupogen to boost his white blood count. I hold him down while my wife injects him and our 7yo daughter wishes she could help comfort him as his screams pierce the entire house but nothing seems to calm a 5yo about to have a needle ........... We go in on 12/21 for our first set of CT/PT & MRI scans since radiation was completed in Oct and are hoping the tumors continue to shrink.........Tonight was was one of the worst days for me and my wife since the first few weeks of initial diagnosis. One of the families we have got to know and love over the past few months was given the worst news. 3 Days ago their 1yo son was in remission after his second relapse and their 3yo daughter who is a perfect bone marrow match candidate was hopefully going to be able to save his life. Today they told them the blasts were back and there was no longer anything they could do for him. They told them they should go home and celebrate Christmas early while he was still feeling good as he might not make it until then..... These past few months have been hard to sy the least. I have always felt as an activist at heart and thought this would be the best place to post this. The youtube video and website I am linking below have been in the making for a long time and just so happened to finally be released today. I am writing tonight to ask for your support to help increase federal funding for childhood cancer research. Please watch the video below and go to their site and sign petitions and get involved to help find cures for childhood cancers. 2500 American children alone die every year from childhood cancers...In FY 2012 only 4% of the measly $5.2B in NIH funding designated to the National Cancer Institute (NCI) was spent on childhood cancer research. This is less then 0.25 Billion a year. We spend more on toilet paper in this country. WTF??? Please help. LOG ON. SIGN UP. SIGN THE PETITIONS!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love you all.

(268 posts)is because the video has been in the works for a long time. It was finally uploaded to youtube this week. It's a good cause and doesnt take much effort to help in a big way. I truly thought the video would be shared a lot more by now. I also thought more people would have singed this petition...
