MB issues urgent call to its supporters via facebook and TV announcement. Failure to show up is not an option.

Tonight could get very, very ugly as this is an almost carbon repeat of what happened last time.

Protesters surge around Egypt's presidential palace
Fri, Dec 07 15:12 PM EST

By Edmund Blair and Yasmine Saleh

CAIRO (Reuters) - Tens of thousands of Egyptian protesters surged around the presidential palace on Friday and the opposition rejected President Mohamed Mursi's call for dialogue to end a crisis that has polarized the nation and sparked deadly clashes.

The Islamist leader's deputy said he could delay a December 15 referendum on a constitution that liberals opposed, although the concession only partly meets a list of opposition demands that include scrapping a decree that expanded Mursi's powers.

"The people want the downfall of the regime" and "Leave, leave," crowds chanted after bursting through barbed wire barricades and climbing on tanks guarding the palace of Egypt's first freely elected president.

...

The National Salvation Front, the main opposition coalition, said it would not join the dialogue. The Front's coordinator, Mohamed ElBaradei, a Nobel peace laureate, dismissed the offer as "arm-twisting and imposition of a fait accompli".

Gaber Salah, known as "Jika," dead; Thousands rally at funeral for young Egyptian activist

Thousands of supporters turned out for the funeral of Gaber Salah, known as "Jika," who was killed in the protests.

Thousands of supporters rallied at the funeral of young activist Gaber Salah, known as "Jika," who died overnight after he was critically injured in a clash between protestors and police in Cairo last week.

AFP reports that mourners followed 16-year-old Salah's coffin as it was carried from Omar Makram mosque in Tahrir Square towards Mohammed Mahmud street, which has seen increasing violence over the past week.

...

"I am not here to pursue the revolution's demands, but for retribution for the murderers of Egyptians. I can't forget my friend who was killed in this area," Mohab Selim, one of Jika's friends, told Ahram Online.

Even those who did not know Salah saw him as a member of their family.

...

Egypt's Daily News reports that Salah was shot in the head and had been on life support for five days. He was pronounced brain dead on Wednesday but kept on life support by his family, who hoped that he would recover.

He was pronounced dead on Sunday.

A quick note on the latest MB statement(s) http://is.gd/ddRqaL

I strongly believe the MB leadership's statement is directed primarily towards its cadres. And in order to get the message out fast, they resorted to FB in addition to the traditional means of communication within the organization. There is unrest inside the ranks of the MB organization for a LONG list of reasons.. and the erratic behavior of the leadership, Morsi's speech yesterday as well as Badie's speech today are in general--- all attempts to address this disarray, frustration, (dissent?) among the ranks

Morsi supporters and the opposition: Two different Egypts

As opposition members snub President Morsi's offer for talks, an unbridgeable chasm seems to have formed between supporters and opponents of the president – each subscribing to a different reality

Yassin Gaber , Friday 7 Dec 2012

A protester cheers as the Freedom and Justice Party's Alexandria headquarters burns (Photo: Reuters)

...

Tarik Fahim, spokesperson of the Salafist Nour Party in Alexandria firmly believes in a different reality: "We are all the people. These protests are an attempt by an opposition to kill the constitutional project. If they really want to resolve the crisis at hand, they would come and sit with us without preconditions."

He refers to the opposition as people with neither principles nor morals. He steers every question on the constitution and the revolution towards a defence of Islamic law, which he claims will bring peace and stability back to Egypt.

"No Muslim would say no to Sharia (Islamic Law)," arguing that the average Egyptian is not ready for a full implementation of Sharia due to "widespread disease and ignorance. They don't know right from wrong; they don't know Sharia."

The constitution is a step, he believes, that would allow future implementation of what he sees as God's law.

On Wednesday, Al-Hosseiny Abou Deif, reporter for the private weekly El-Fagr, was shot in the head at close range with a rubber bullet by an individual who local journalists and news reports said was a supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood party, according to news reports. Abou Deif, whose camera was also taken, was covering protests near the presidential palace at the time of the attack and had filmed Muslim Brotherhood supporters beating up protesters and using live ammunition, news reports said.

Abou Deif sustained severe injuries to his brain, head, and neck, and was in a coma on Friday, according to Mustafa Thabit, director of El-Fagr website. Doctors said that Abou Deif had severe brain damage since the bullet had penetrated his skull, Thabit told CPJ.

The Egyptian Journalists Syndicate released a statement on Thursday saying they had filed a complaint with the Prosecutor General against members of the Muslim Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party for inciting violence against journalists. The Muslim Brotherhood did not immediately respond to the complaint.

At least four other journalists were also injured by rubber bullets while covering protests near the presidential palace. Mohamed Azouz, reporter for the state-run daily Al-Gomhuria, was hit in the face by a rubber bullet, news reports said. News accounts reported that Osama al-Shazzly, a reporter for the private daily El-Badil; Mohamed Saad, a freelance journalist who contributes to local news websites; and Ahmed Abd al-Salam, a reporter for the private daily Al-Alam al-Yawm, had also been struck by rubber bullets. News reports did not offer further details or say whether the attacks were linked.
