Veterans with brain injuries to get easier health care access
New proposed rules from the Department of Veterans Affairs would make it easier for veterans to access health care for brain injuries, a working hazard for those in the military, reported the New York Times.
The regulations would speed up and simplify the process of receiving benefits and coverage for some forms of dementia and unprovoked seizures, among other illnesses that can arise from brain trauma.
The changes will be open to 60 days of public comment and could result in thousands more troops becoming eligible for coverage.
However, the new rules dont completely open the door for those veterans who believe their illness is connected to time spent in the military. In many cases, limitations within the new rules will cover only moderate or severe forms of injury, while those classified as mild wont make the cut.
