In Nebraska, Omaha recorded its 285th consecutive snowless day Wednesday breaking its previous record set in 2006 and Lincoln extended its record on Thursday to 297 days without measureable snow. Lincoln's former record was 295 snow-free days in 2004.
Chicago and Milwaukee are just days away from breaking their records. Other areas also are either setting or close to records, while some cities are far off their usual snowfall totals.

(10,597 posts)This is the new weather pattern with the climate change. Don't worry, it will get there, and will probably be the worst storm you ever had and catch up on the inches you missed from the first part of the winter. Just my prediction....

(810 posts)Supposed to get between 3 - 7 inches of snow tonight and maybe a couple more on Sunday. Better make sure I've got enough fuel for the snow blower - just in case they're right.

(1,418 posts)scary.. because if we're basically still in a drought in some areas of the midwest, it means less water ending up in the Mississippi River-- which obv needs the water level to rise.

(1,418 posts)Inland fresh water lakes which supply drinking water to millions shrinking? while the oceans, non-potable water, rising? Not good

(3,502 posts)We don't usually get a whole lot of snow or really cold weather here until Jan/Feb - except when we do. Winters vary a lot on Long Island. I know a robust winter would be the best thing after last year's non-winter, but given the price of home heating oil it's hard not to welcome a mild one.

(2,217 posts)but where & how it happens is beyond my understanding. But it's not unusual for a weather pattern to be the same for a couple years.

(22,000 posts)Lots of snow in South Korea, but we had a drought over here during the summer as well. It's fucking colder than hell.

(36,063 posts)You know darn good and well that it never comes when you're ready and waiting for it, particularly on a weekend when you've got a Saturday or Sunday morning to deal with it at your own pace.

(22,000 posts)And we knew it was coming, but as to how much we didn't know. As to the rest of your comment, I think you are talking gibberish.

(146,338 posts)we're expecting about 6" of wet, sloppy snow overnight. My snowblower is all tuned up and full of gas. I'm ready.

(10,745 posts)And in fact, I wouldn't be too surprised if sometime in the near future we end up seeing an inversion at some point; if anybody remembers the Dec. 1989 cold snap......that's kind of what I had in mind(Europe just went thru one of the coldest Januaries ever this year!).

(146,338 posts)Now, I have to decide whether to do one removal now and another later, or wait for the snow to stop. It's a difficult decision. I have no place I must go today, so I could easily just let it continue to pile up and remove it all in a single pass tomorrow morning. However, if the snow is too wet for my snowblower to work properly, it will be harder to clear tomorrow.
Decisions, decisions...I believe I'll wait until about noon and take off the first accumulation, and then repeat that tomorrow morning. Feh!

(11,797 posts)We got about 5 inches. My husband went out to shovel, and a neighbor came over and asked why. My husband thought the guy was joking, but he was totally serious. We grew up in New Jersey, and shoveling the walk is a fact of every kid's life.

(26,308 posts)We've had 2 other snows that didn't stay on the ground for more than a day but unless something breaks up the weather that's approaching, that could change, today.

(26,308 posts)Weather Underground's map shows a massive blue blob moving our way and we have 100% chance of precip both today and tomorrow but the latest forecast has us above freezing. Any accumulation will probably be short lived but as long as we get the moisture into the ground, I'll be happy. And, with Michigan weather, I take that forecast with a grain of salt since it could be turned on it's head, in a matter of hours.

(115,900 posts)I think we've already had 5" or so overnight, and it's still coming down. But aside from a little sprinkle a few weeks ago this is all we've had this year.
