DU this abuse of power: No Sweetheart, 40-Year Tax Break for Nike Corporation

Oregon's governor has called a special session of the lame-duck Legislature just to give ONE corporation a tax break package for FORTY years!

No Sweetheart Tax Deal for Nike

To be delivered to:

The Oregon State House, The Oregon State Senate, and Governor John Kitzhaber

Petition Statement
Governor Kitzhaber and Oregon legislators: Do not to railroad a sweetheart tax deal for Nike through the lame duck legislature.

Petition Background
The Oregon Working Families Party calls on the Oregon legislature to reject the Governor's sweetheart tax deal with Nike.

Right now there is no transparency for how much Nike pays in state taxes. Now the Governor is trying to railroad through a deal that would tie the hands of the legislature and voters and would lock in Nike's tax rate for up to 40 years.

This is a BAD precedent and a BAD deal for Oregon!

They got out of paying the city $7M at that time (5+years ago), and then got millions in free publicity for 'donating' $1M to the local schools that didn't have enough money, in large part because this giant corporation blackmailed the city to avoid paying taxes.

Phil Knight should be sentenced to live in any of the countries his shoes are made in with no money for a decade or two.

You might remember that he made it into Michael Moore's first film, Roger & Me.
