WHEN is the effing time to talk about gun control?

People say not now. However, we never seem to really get around to it.

I agree that the huge rush of emotion should not govern the change. However, we have got to begin now to at least lay the groundwork for discussion. Call that cold-blooded, but you better believe that the NRA and others are mobilizing to counter any effort.

If no groundwork is done to assure that the NRA will not control the debate, we will never get to the real problems. There are issues that must be addressed and not sidetracked.

It is time to take control of the debate. They cannot have died in vane. It is senseless.

their solution to gun killings is another person there shooting at everyone. I'm not minimizing that we absolutely need to limit and strictly regulate gun and ammo purchases, but another major part of the problem here is the ridiculous attitude that guns solve problems and that if you have any kind of a problem, you need a gun to "protect" yourself.

First define what you mean by gun control. I presume you are using the term gun control as a euphemism to really mean gun ban and gun confiscation or some de facto as such.

If that be the case, care to explain: 1) How are you going to manage outlawing a right which has been here since before independence and supported by a multitude of millions of citizens as well as supporting several large businesses and merchants employing millions of citizens? 2) How are you going to stop the inevitable black market which will form to supply the demand to whoever? 3) How are you going to manage to confiscate the millions upon millions of guns already in existence? 4) What about all the people who's lives are saved every year because they were armed? Who gives a shit about them right? They can just suck eggs and die for all you care right? 5) What about 99% of guns/gun owners who never miss use their weapons? Fuck 'em, make their lawful activity a criminal offense. Not because you know by doing so will actually stop a mass murderer from getting their hands on a gun anyway and committing mass murder, but because you see an opportunity to use human tragedy as an avenue to force your political agenda.

Sorry, but America is about freedom. Unfortunately bad things happen because there are some bad people out there. Therefore we have laws to deal with people who commit these horrible acts. That's the reality of living in a free country. But as soon as you start repressing freedom in the name of security. You can call it what you want, but it isn't freedom.

My two cents. n/t

We all have heard the arguments ad nauseum. There are sensible laws that can and should be passed.
I am not going to argue nuance and poicy today.
I said begin to lay the groundwork.

I didn't say to post another polemic about gun control.

Nothing I posted is out of line or off-topic. If you can't deal with reality, that's your problem.
