(40,029 posts)I would like all vids to have a summary. One sentence, even.

(126,272 posts)proclaiming that some GOP knucklehead was DESTROYED or HUMILIATED or whatever, when they really weren't; most of the time the money shot is a 1-minute clip of Trump or one of his goons saying something stupid or insane, and it's buried somewhere inside a 20-minute dissertation from some obscure click-seeking podcaster telling us how stupid or insane it was. These videos are commercial enterprises; they make money off our attention, so they have the same general appearance and tone as a supermarket checkout-line tabloid and are about as worthless. They are a waste of our time and clutter up our feeds. If there's nothing of value in them - and there almost never is - they shouldn't be posted at all. Seems to me that posting one of these is just a lazy way of "commenting" without having to do any thinking.

(18,784 posts)It would be super cool if a poster were notified when a certain threshold of trashed posts was reached.
While I agree with your general sentiment about those posts, I think such a rule would be difficult to enforce and result in uneven and potentially unfair enforcement. So I think those posts should be discouraged but not sure of the best way to achieve that.

(14,131 posts)It would send a message to the poster about what DUers think is click bait without a jury, hides and the like . There are a lot of important videos uploaded here. That's great. But the jazzed up, click bait, moderator podcast types can easily be hyped for ad purposes and not focused on balanced reporting let alone be a drawn out waste of time. It doesn't exactly help the credibility of the site.

(97,399 posts)If the length of the video was visible, a brief summary is helpful too. There's so much going on that I don't have time to watch them all yet I would like to know what they are about so I can choose to watch or not.

If people post things I assume they want people to be informed of what was posted so why not include this info ?

(4,420 posts)many times the title is just a lure to an obscure statement somewhere in the video validating the post title. I agree with Ocelot that at the very least, some type of summary should be required. Between reading the posts on DU and Bluesky, much of my day can easily be consumed. Add a dozen videos to the list? Nope.

(5,895 posts)I would also humbly suggest that simply posting a thread title and an X link is not sufficient. Give us a pic of the X so that we don't have to access that asshole's site.

(104,209 posts)It's overkill to be so specific (for GD, anyway; LBN does have strict rules, and that's what makes it the place for information, rather than discussion). Personally, I just ignore thread titles that don't tell me what they're about, unless they happen to be from a DUer I know will post something worthwhile.

(37,374 posts)More broadly, though. It would be nice if people posting visual content developed the habit of providing a text description of the image, cartoon, video, do that people who are visually impaired can join in whatever fun you are offering. Text readers (and other visual aid tools) don't handle images or cartoons well enough to make them accessible.
I'm bad at doing it on DU, extremely good at it when there is an alternative text box provided. So I would respond well to an invitation in the post page.

(3,164 posts)At times, when I request a summary I get snotty responses - just watch the video. Usually though, the request is just ignored.

(2,323 posts)I like to know what I am being asked to watch. I like it so much that I virtually never click on any posts that are marked as video.

(39,717 posts)Not here on DU, not on television, not on the internet.
I quit all broadcast and cable television news and opinion more than twenty years ago. Here on DU I put compulsive posters of "click bait" news and opinion videos on full ignore.
Before the site formerly known as twitter came along I always figured television was the worst medium for news and opinion. It seems to me that television propaganda bypasses the critical thinking skills of many people. Television news and opinion moves by faster than most people can think. Too often it's a fire hose of bullshit.
People can read news and opinion at the same speed they think. If they feel they missed something they can go back and read it again. That's not the way people watch television.

(14,556 posts)Require an accurate, one sentence description of any video. And no hyperbole.

(59,147 posts)You have the power to click or not click. I myself can just look at the video & determine if it click bait or not.
With everything going on in the world, I highly doubt that the DU Admins will make this a high priority or any priority for that matter.

(21,206 posts)Requiring it for all would be much easier than trying to define a slippery concept like "clickbait," and one sentence would be sufficient, in most cases.
If something is worth posting, surely it's worth labeling what it is.
