How would you like to be a US military pilot flying a classfied mission,

a dangerous mission taking place over enemy territory.

Dangerous under the best of circumstances.

You are responsible for completing the mission and making sure you safely
bring home the entire flight crew.

You then learn that the Secretary of Defense, and other people in the Pentagon,
have leaked all the particulars of the mission ahead of time.
The time, place, aircraft, etc.

Putting you and your crew in grave danger.

Even if you are lucky enough to make it home in one piece,
it is possible your identity and the crew's identity will be discovered as well.
Putting you in more danger.

If your own government doesn't have your back when you risk your life, you are screwed.
How long will Air Force and Navy pilots fly missions under these circumstances?

Tue Mar 25, 2025, 03:49 PM
Mar 2025

And by the time it gets to them, it's been cleared so there is little reason to assume it's illegal. It would need to be blatantly illegal or they would need to have knowledge of it to be illegal for most to risk a Article 92. Like orders to "go kill every man woman and child in that town" blatant. Most soldiers aren't legal scholars, they don't know international law, what treaties we are part of, etc. That's for the higher ups to worry about. The soldiers in the trenches care about doing their duty and surviving. You get orders, you carry them out. If they're blatantly illegal you refuse. If you know they are illegal, you refuse. If you aren't sure, then 9/10 times they will just assume the order made it through the chain of command without challenge so it's probably legal.

What you were doing sounds dangerous.

I am only an USAF kid, my father flew combat in three wars.
We were stationed overseas during the Viet Nam war, the men flying
back and forth to Viet Nam from USAF bases in the far east.

So I am quite far from actual combat conditions.

But I understand the extreme importance of never discussing classified military
missions. Our fathers never said one word about where they were going,
what the were doing, when they would return.

Never said one word when they returned about what they did, etc.

Sometimes the kids could put two and two together and get four.
But we kept our mouths shut too. We would never discuss it.

It is well known that loose lips sinks ships. There were posters on base
saying this. When we were young, we would ask our parents what this meant.
Our parents were frank about what it meant. We understood some of the Dads
never came home. Keep your mouth shut to keep your dads alive.

Anything said can get people killed. It is literally life and death.
So military children know more than our current American DOD leadership.

My mind cannot fathom the idea of a military officer or NCO
leaking classified combat information about specific missions before they happen.
To put themselves and members of their team in grave danger.
Yes they would be arrested or killed.

Mar 2025

My USAF dad was flying back and forth to Viet Nam during the war.
We were overseas.

One day he was ready to go to the flight line to fly out on TDY to DaNang.
I was shocked to see a gun in a holster on a belt around his waist over his flight suit.
I asked him what it was, he said in case his plane got shot down, all the men had been
issued a gun. To fight off the enemy.

People in the USAF didn't carry guns. Except the MPs.

I was a young teen, and I could clearly see that the gun was fairly small.
It would not defend against anyone. And I knew the air crews most likely
could not hit the broad side of a barn and had been given no lessons.

And in an instant I understood what the gun was really for.

I said nothing, everything was classified and we didn't talk about things like this.

Yes the release of classified war plans is beyond irresponsible.
