Look I think that a lot of the Legacy Media is just getting this entirely wrong:
They are acting as if Donald Trump somehow has a coherent Economic Theory — even if it's one they disagree with. They are ascribing to him a economic purpose.
This is what Donald Trump is up to: he wants to impose these Tariffs because he will then be able to lift them selectively.
He wants to be able to impose these Tariffs because it will force billionaires to fly their private planes to Mara Largo to say "Will you lift it against my business?"
And he will be able to say "Yes I will lift it for this and not for that."
He wants foreign leaders to bend the knee, and say "Oh Donald Trump will you give tariff relief to my country?"
And allow him to say "Okay I'll do this and not that."
He wants Republicans in Congress who have debased themselves over and over again, to beg for their farmers, or to beg for this industry, or for that manufacturer.
What it does: It allows Donald Trump to be a king.
It allows him to destroy the US economy, and aggrandize himself, and his sense of power.
