Vice President JD Vance ripped into Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts for saying the courts are an equal branch of government whose job is to check the excesses of the executive branch.
Earlier this month, Roberts responded to calls from MAGA to impeach judges who ruled against Donald Trumps policies by saying, In our Constitution, the judiciary is a coequal branch of government, separate from the others, with the authority to interpret the Constitution as law, and strike down acts of Congress or acts of the president.
That innovation doesnt work if the judiciary is not independent, he continued during a fireside chat in Buffalo, New York. Its job is to, obviously, decide cases, but in the course of that, check the excesses of Congress or of the executive, and that does require a degree of independence.
His remarks drew applause from the crowd.
Less than a week later, Roberts warned a group of graduating law students that the rule of law was endangered and called for an end to trashing the justices of the Supreme Court. The comments came as Trump and his supporters have attacked federal judgesincluding conservative Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrettand ignored judicial rulings.
But instead of heeding Roberts warnings, Vancewho as a graduate of Yale Law School would be well aware of the separation of powers and the role of the judiciaryresponded by accusing the courts of mounting an effort to quite literally overturn the will of the American people.

(4,377 posts)Vance must acknowledge that Trump and his evil elves have recklessly grabbed the wheel and abruptly driven the nation into the ditch.
Furthermore, they have done so in cynical exploitation of how slowly the courts can move to prevent the damage Trump is doing.

Nothing matters anymore. One of the main points of P25 is to turn people against and delegitimize the judicial branch. Hes just doing his part.
And Ill bet if you poll the MAGAts they will be full bore behind ignoring or even eliminating the judicial.
A full third or more of the country has no idea this is even happening or doesnt care.
Ninety percent of us who do know whats happening and are opposed to all of this arent going to do anything about it, probably more.
Because itll be a major inconvenience at the very least to put ourselves in harms way, let alone to shed the blood that will be necessary to stand up to this in a meaningful way.
We have to get to the point where theres nothing left to lose before anything like that happens and by that time, itll probably be far too late.
This is all bad, really bad. Worse than I expected and I expected pretty fucking bad.
