(285,183 posts)Air India flight 171, a Boeing 787-8 (also known as a Dreamliner), came down in the residential area of Meghani Nagar five minutes after taking off at 1.38pm local time, Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the director general of the directorate of civil aviation, told the Associated Press.
According to reports in the Indian media, the plane crashed into a building used as accommodation by doctors working in local hospitals.

(18,455 posts)Something about the wing flaps not in the proper position for takeoff is what caused the crash.
Too early to reach definitive result as to the actual cause of the crash.

(285,183 posts)Experts say plane took off way too early - suggesting pilot error - also flaps may not have been properly extended

(20,660 posts)The sudden loss of loved ones in an accident or crash is terrible. Malaise and I both know the wretched experience.
Something is very wrong with civilian aviation in India and around the world. I wonder if the answer has to do with profit margins.

(20,660 posts)787 similar concept, but with two engines for better efficiency.
Flown both. To me, four engines is OK. Safety in numbers.

(8,951 posts)That's just from the video. But given the temp, the pilot should have had 15 deg flaps set. In the video, the flaps appear to be set to 0!
