Critics pounce as Trump turns 'official government website' into scheme for 'selling green cards'
On his Truth Social platform, President Donald Trump is promoting a new website: TrumpCard.gov.
The site reads, "The Trump Card is Coming. Enter your information below to be notified the moment access opens."
On Truth Social, Trump wrote, "FOR FIVE MILLIONS $DOLLARS, THE TRUMP CARD IS COMING! Thousands have been calling and asking how they can sign up to ride a beautiful road in gaining access to the Greatest Country and Market anywhere in the World."
The TrumpCard.gov site is receiving a lot of discussion on X, formerly Twitter.
Aaron Reichlin-Melnick of the American Immigration Council tweeted, "This is — and I cannot stress this enough — a real government website right now. It is hosted on the Department of Commerce website. The Department of Commerce has no immigration functions whatsoever that I am aware of. No, the President cannot sell green cards. Period."
Fernando Boscardin, a University of Miami law professor, posted, "In many so-called 'third world' countries, constitutions enforce impersonality, and violating this would be considered administrative misconduct, resulting in penalties, including removal from office, loss of political rights, fines, and bans on government contracts. These countries have more advanced legislation than ours in this regard. This is very third world past. What they not allowed in these days we are doing."
