Pete Hegseth had just been nominated for defense secretary, and no one knew much about him. A reporter caught up with Adam Smith in a parking garage in the evening and asked him his opinion on Hegseth. Rep. Smith didn't have any information to give. He didn't know Hegseth.

But I wanted to hear more from this man because he was very forthright and candid. Reading his remarks or testimony doesn't do him justice; it was his expression that really got my attention.
