I was not going to go to the No Kings Rally tomorrow.. but have had a change of heart

I am in my late 70's and not in the best physical shape because of knee issues and replacements.. But after what I read from that crazy sheriff in Florida about committing violence and even killing people who come to the rally.. I am going if I have to do it in a wheelchair.

https://news.yahoo.com/news/florida-sheriff-tells-protesters-ahead-200834099.html

No one I know ever commits violence at protests or rallys or support gatherings.. but when you have the authorities threating violence like that you just have to take a stand.

We are turn the cheek Christians and my whole church will be there. We will be watching.. the whole world will be watching after this..

He wrote an essay on farting which is probably about junior high level as content goes, but because it is in 18th century formal English is quite amusing.

I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and there will be no shortage of people at those rallies. However, our vacation house in the mountains is in a very Red district. It’s an hour’s drive to the County Seat where the rally here will be held. I’m going. We have to make our voices heard, even if it’s inconvenient.

and knew I would be needing it more and more. I feel more confident walking in the grocery story because I have a shopping cart to steady myself. Figured one of the new style walkers, where you can extend the frame to accommodate long legs and not be stooped over might be good. I also knew I would be going to many protests and the walker will help make that easier. It comes with a bit of storage space under the handy seat. Yeah, water bottles and bull horn!

Got a good one on sale. Best purchase in a long time. I can sit when I need to and offer a seat to a fellow protester when I need to stand. Even rigged up a strap system for my flagpole and over-sized US flag! Thinking of putting on the bike horn I had given my late sister for her walker a few years back. And I may make a strap for my trusty bodhrán so I can join in with neighbors who bring kazoos, harmonicas, and that guy with the tin whistle who always shows up here.

So, find a way to make participation easier, Peacetrain. You will likely feel better among like minded new friends than being alone at home doom-scrolling the news. Water, hat, sunscreen, pride in our people acting together peacefully, it will make you feel better, stronger, maybe a bit younger. We The People ARE the US, not that crew of fascists who think they have all the power.

I registered to go to the rally in the next town over. But then I thought about the logistics.... questionable parking, severe spinal stenosis to a point where it's painful to stand for more than 10 minutes, a real phobia of crowds and noise .... something I'm in therapy for.

So I cancelled... and I feel enormous guilt.

Resolution: I have a fine arts background and in the future I will participate by making signs for people who are able to participate in person. This is a result of so much soul searching. Although I live in a different State, you will be my proxy! I'm 76 years old.

... done that. I had stenosis in L4 and L5, and then surgery 13 years ago. I'm 78 and still pretty spry – that's what they call us, ain't it? – but sciatica can slow me down some when it hits. The thing that really limits my participation in outdoor events is one permanent side effect of getting my junk bombarded with radiation 5 days a week for 6 months: Incontinence. I didn't know I had prostate cancer, but I sure as hell knew when I got cured! So, the rule is, never get between me and a bathroom. Just this morning I had a blood draw for another PSA test. Gotta keep an eye on that shit.
Y'know, It's weird being the same age as old people.

I’m 76 years old with long standing back issues. Surgery in 1999 helped a lot but I think I’ve developed spinal stenosis …not diagnosed … just have the symptoms. Plus two knee replacements. The knees are good. The back? Not so much. So attending a rally could be risky for me. My spouse is much better off but I don’t want him worrying about me…and he would.

There are two rallies in our town, both going on simultaneously. If I can figure out how to safely attend the one closest to us (2-3 miles away), I may go. The location will be much safer. No need to get in the street. DeSantis has pretty much said drivers can run down pedestrians with impunity, so staying out of traffic is a high priority for this old gal. I am happy to protest, but not ready to cross the Rainbow Bridge ….yet.

Hear’s an idea for folks who support the cause but are infirm or unsteady on their feet, how about organizers offer things we can do? Send money. Make signs. Bake some snacks for the crowd. Send water. It is June. And in my town, it is hot. Even at 10 a.m. Give us a way to support the cause even if we cannot attend the rally.

I seldom miss a vigil or protest. However, my husband had cataract surgery yesterday. He usually helps me with the wheelchair I borrow for some of these events. I think I will have to stay away from this one. I am disappointed. He will be full healthy, driving, walking and lifting soon. And he will see better!

Stay safe, all who are going. And report back!

along with my heart. Friends are stopping by this afternoon to pick up the signs.

Sounds like we're the same age, dealing with assorted debilities. I have one of the "rollerators", cracks me up that my walker has brakes; it's gotten me to many events, indoors and outside. Right now it's the side effects of my meds that keep me home and close to plumbing, most frustrating.

That said, I maintain a supply of poster board, foam board, corrugated cardboard, markers, paints and brushes. Over the next three years we will have ample need for protest, as this misadministration has no problem generating objectionables. Just because I'm stuck at home doesn't mean I'm muzzled!

Go for it!

That is it and we need to take action now!

This is the first time in my life that I am afraid for California surviving as a functional state. There will be violence. They are ready for it with our military and Eric Prince’s Christian army.

It’s going to be 103 here tomorrow and, if you know El Paso, it will rain down UV like you wouldn’t believe. It was getting hot, nearly 100°, and I started having trouble breathing. I've had recent cardiac issues and just didn't want to chance trouble.

It was a joyful crowd, lots of great signs. I think my favorite was a hand made sign asking for a gofundme to buy Congress a spine and SCOTUS some balls.
