(799 posts)My wife and I are going. I have had both knees replaced and two back surgeries. I also have neuropathy in my feet from my knee surgeries. If they want to arrest a 71 year old guy and his wife. So be it. She and I will just be there. No signs, just showing up to be part of it. When I was much younger, in 1972 I went to the repub convention in Miami Beach. Marched and marched. Stayed at Flamingo Park with the Yippies, the Zippies and the hippies. Little Jewish ladies brought us food and water. They were great and loved what we were doing. I have to return to my roots.

(121,301 posts)I just had my post-hospital follow up appointment with my primary care physician and picked up my prescriptions. The nearest rally is about 50 miles away or I could catch a bus to the rally in Houston, but 5:15 a.m. is way too early for a bus ride. I also think that I would be a sitting duck being in a wheelchair if the situation turned ugly.
Take care of yourself.

(799 posts)I am however bringing a DSLR. It's old and doesn't record video. I really don't think there's going to be any violence or disruptions, unless the rubes in pick up trucks show up. We will be at the courthouse in JAX FL.

I was at the Pentagon in 1967 at age 15, and I dont think what we were protesting then was anywhere nearly as dangerous to the country as what were facing now. In 1967, no one even considered the possibility that we would be shot at. Today, I harbor no such illusions.

(799 posts)A very Happy Birthday to our US Army. To our veterans, all of them that sacrifice their personal lives for their country. I know my dad will be here in spirit when I gather with my fellow citizens. The military was a lot harder on families back then.

(1,115 posts)I am 79, and although I am fortunately still able to get around, I no longer have the stamina required.
I have a sign in mind, if I felt I could do it. I was a Federal employee for 35 years, so it would say:
First in small letters, " I took an oath to defend the Constitution." Then in larger letters, "Old woman standing against fascism and tyranny!"

We figured since were perfectly fine to go out for drinks and dinner several nights of the week, take a daily 2 mile walk, and still hold down a job, we cant play the senior card when it comes to participating in this March. But there are plenty of people, our age and much younger, who, for some reason are not able to join us and thats perfectly fine. You can go for us next time.

There's always something one can do if unable to attend the demonstration - if I couldn't I would be proudly flying the US flag and put a sign out - though it wouldn't be as...uh...scatalogical as the one I'll be waving lol.

(8,042 posts)I was already barely able to sleep four hours a night because o the pain I am in. Today, I took a nap and when I woke up, I started feeling bad. I am currently fighting chills and my skin is very tender.
I want to go. I want to put my money where my (decidedly big) mouth is. But, this is my life these days.
I keep hearing this scene in my head over and over. It is from one of my all time favorite movies, 'Glory''. If you are not familiar with it, go check it out.
In that spirit... Give 'em hell!

About this event
In Hawaii the only kings we respect are the Hawaiian Kings. We say no to a wanna be dictator .
Join us for a national day of action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from Trump and his allies. Weve watched as theyve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, threatened to deport American citizens, and defied the courts. Theyve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.
🚨On Saturday, June 14, were taking to the streets nationwide. Were not gathering to feed his ego. Were building a movement that leaves him behind.🚨
The flag doesnt belong to Donald Trump. It belongs to us. Were not watching history happen. Were making it.
On June 14th, were showing up everywhere he isntto say no thrones, no crowns, no kings. Check out nokings.org for more information.
A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.

(2,884 posts)we're all Democrats and allies - we watch out for one another. At one march an older woman accidentally tripped on a trolley rail and went down on one knee - she was instantly surrounded by people assisting her back up and asking if she was OK, and that was a march that had over 120,000 people in it and was on the move.
I'm 72 and the DH is 73, but we're both strong and able, and ready to assist anyone who needs it!

(12,108 posts)Severe anxiety over being around so many people today. I almost think it would be easier to go to a larger protest than the one in my small county. More of a chance to be among like minded patriots and more of a chance to blend in.
After I vomit a few times, I should be alright. Standing up in maga land is scary. Especially for us loners who don't socialize much.
SARose
(1,544 posts)Headed to bed, I tripped and went head first into the linen closet door. Banged my elbow on the door hinge, landed on my bad knee, and fell on my hip.
Sooooo a trip to the emergency clinic, two X-rays later nothing broken. Yay! No concussion either-Mama always said I have a hard head! 🤣
They cleaned up my elbow scrapes, gave me some pain meds, and orders to stay off the leg as much as possible.
Sitting on the couch with knee iced and elevated, cup of morning coffee and the goodest boy snuggle bunny doxie by my side.
Sending good vibes throughout the universe to all marching today. Stay safe all and know you are doing something awesome today!
