Report from a Minnesota No Kings event

Law enforcement and the governor advised people not to attend any No Kings events in Minnesota "out of an abundance of caution," but I guess a lot of us decided to fuck the abundance of caution and went anyhow. I had originally wanted to go to the big one at the Capitol but I concluded that my creaky old knees would have objected to the amount of walking and standing they would have had to endure - so I decided to go to a smaller "satellite" event a few miles away, elsewhere in St. Paul. I don't know how many people were there; the crowd was strung out along both sides of a couple of blocks on a busy street but there would have been at least several hundred. It was an enthusiastic, even joyful crowd, lots of chanting and cheering, lots of waves and horns from passing cars, and plenty of clever signs. No violence, no incidents, police weren't even there except to drive by a couple of times and wave to us.

Glad you went to an easier and lower key protest.
Loved that the police left you alone except to drive by and wave!

Great great signs!

The reports are amazing.

People are angry but polite and peaceful.
And feel strongly about what is happening.

we had rain and I didn't bring my cell phone, so no pics. But there was a drone! and lots of other pics taken so hopefully I'll find a memory. Thanks for passing on the good time!

Am so proud to hear how you and others went out and the courage.

They want everyone to be in fear - glad many won’t let the darkness win.

Interesting that the media is making it sound like ALL No Kings Events canceled in MN

pS - great signs!

Hearing this morning that two of our state legislators and their spouses had been shot in a politically-motivated attack made me even more determined to go. Even if all the Minnesota events had actually been cancelled (only one really was, because it was in the shelter-in-place area), I'd have driven over to Wisconsin for the one in Hudson. As it turned out, a lot of other people felt the same way and the shows did go on. https://www.cbsnews.com/minnesota/video/protests-in-st-paul-go-on-as-planned-despite-no-kings-cancellation/

My trivia question:
Q; What do the Mayo Clinic and Best Buy have in common?
A: They're both Minnesota-based institutions founded in the wake of devastating tornado strikes. Mayo Clinic in 1883 in Rochester; Best Buy in 1981 in Roseville.
