(11,486 posts)The event at UW was a fraction of what we saw at Cal Anderson Park (70,000+), but it was a great crowd. And I, and think everyone present, young and old, were inspired by the Raging Grandmas. (Other photos from UW event down-thread.)

(11,486 posts)... to share those ragin' grandmas photos!
Decades of beltway group think has developed a "can't win, won't fight" impulse within our party that will only be overcome if either the old guard steps aside, or the younger folk push them aside.
There have just been too many decades of battered democratic syndrome conditioning, where the big fear has been "backlash" from the radical reactionary noise machine. I think it will take younger people who get that there is no "moderating" the message. The feared "beating" from the radical reactionaries is coming, so WTF, just stand strong for what you believe.

(166,143 posts)and I am always impressed with any younger folk who are truly progressive DESPITE the non-stop crap they receive from so many sources - shows me they are TOUGH and see past the nonsense
and yes the way to beat fascism is to UNITE AGAINST THEM - trying to fight them alone just does NOT work

(2,477 posts)I have done protest marchers in Seattle before ... this may dwarf the WTO protest, which was pretty much the largest to date.

Maybe more than 70,000. I've seen 100,000 but the context seemed to be "protests in the northwest."
I'm glad I helped boost the numbers at UW, but a friend who was at Cal Anderson said it was unlike anything before.
And the time lapse captures the inspiring numbers!
I was at the University of Washington. We didn't approach a fraction of that, but we did OK.
