I didn't hear about the assasination of Melissa Hortman or the attempted assasination of John Hoffman

until I picked up my protest sister before our local event today.

And it's just sinking in now.

While the No Kings event brought so much joy, comaraderie and a much needed uplifting to my spirit, to be with so many good, decent, like minded people, that news was a painful reminder of just how awful, how cruel, many in our society have become.

A painful reminder of just how dark things are and how rapidly things are deteriorating. The con artist has been such a dark stain. He has brought out so much hatred and cruelty. Everything is awful.

But good people are standing up and speaking out. And that is what it is going to take. Good people standing up, speaking out and fighting back. Silence is no longer an option.

Murdock's propaganda machine, Rush Limbaugh and that ilk have been pushing the impressionable for almost 50 years now. Plus he is an evilgelical, so that's a pretty twisted up nut job.

Please read "The Fourth Turning is Here" by Neil Howe.

Things are going to get worse, a lot worse, a whole lot worse, before they get better.

Think of it this way. Imagine it's June, 1941. The war in Europe is raging. This country, so far, has stayed out and many (most?) people sincerely hope we stay out completely. But no. In six months the Japanese will bomb Pearl Harbor and we'll be in, completely, enthusiastically, through to the end.

Essentially, metaphorically, we are now as if it's sometime around June, 1941. This time we have Donald Trump as President, rather than FDR. We also have many citizens who honestly think he's right, want to remove all immigrants, haven't a clue as to who actually harvests our crops, cleans the offices they work in, or stocks the groceries and everything else they buy at Wal Mart. All they know is that immigrants are bad, and they are why so many bad things keep happening.

Again, everyone here needs to read The Fourth Turning is Here. Yes, you all do.

I keep on recommending that book, and no one ever seems interested in it.

It is an important book, depressing as it may be.

I’m a fellow history nerd and voracious reader

Forget how I leaned about Neil Howe - but I somehow got directed to it and had epiphanies

when they first came out. These books explain things and present a way of viewing history, current events, and the future in a way I've never seen before. I feel as if I know what's going to happen. Not really, of course.

The main thing to keep in mind is that things will get worse, a whole lot worse, and it will be longer than we want it to be before things get better. Howe expects the crisis we are currently in will last into the early 2030s. He also sincerely thought that Trump would not be elected again. Maybe he'll write another book.
