Sources: Vance Boelter's wife detained for questioning after traffic stop near Onamia

A manhunt is underway for Vance Boelter, who is suspected of shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers – one of them fatally – as well as their spouses. Now, multiple law enforcement sources have told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS a traffic stop at a convenience store located near Onamia late Saturday morning involved a vehicle which was carrying Boelter’s wife, as well as three other relatives.

Sources say a traffic stop was done between 10 and 11 a.m. A witness says about a dozen law enforcement squads converged on the vehicle and remained on the scene for two to three hours.

Two sources tell 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS the vehicle contained a weapon, ammunition, cash and passports. However, to our knowledge, no one has been arrested – just questioned.

It also hasn’t been disclosed as to why the vehicle was stopped, whether it was being tracked, or if it was a random traffic stop.

The wife of Minnesota shooter Vance Luther Boelter has been detained and is being questioned after police found a weapon, ammunition, cash and passports in her car during a traffic stop on Saturday morning. Jenny Boetler was found in the car with relatives near Onamia, Minnesota.

It is unclear if the Boetlers lived with each other, as Vance is believed to live at a residence in Camden, Minnesota and that resident was raided by SWAT teams on Saturday afternoon. He was last registered as a Republican to vote back in 2022.

this man would have said he was not political. The fact that he was known to be a very public advocate against abortion and identified as a Christian nationalist, he is definitely a culture warrior. The only way to see him as "no political" is if he is so partisan he thinks politics is not the solution. He didn't just nonchalantly vote for Trump, his whole life is centered around remaking the US.

to put myself in the position and ask how I would react.
Were I the wife, I would be booking it out of the country as well to shield my kids from the coming backlash. Even if she is uninvolved (and I suspect that is likely), the public and media will never leave them alone. So yea, I'd cheese it too, as quickly as I could. I can do LE interviews on zoom.

I can see you might tell her (them? Are their children adults?) that they must not leave the country (or state?) since they are potential witnesses in the case, and you might confiscate the passport(s) to ensure that (but you might well need something from a judge for that).

It could be a driver who regularly carries a gun in their car. It's possible that the driver was taking others to the border, but wasn't intending to go into Canada themselves. It's possible they just had their passports in case they later decided to go to Canada. And so on. We really can't say from a short sentence in a news report.
